SELECT Fair transforms the Catalina Hotel into an art gallery

The Catalina Hotel  & Beach Club  will receive a complete transformation to host one of today’s most renowned independent art fairs taking place during this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach.

The highly anticipated SELECT Fair will take place Dec. 6-9  at The Catalina Hotel  & Beach Club, (1732 Collins Ave., Miami Beach), and will feature 64 world-class collections of art, installations and performances, presented by today’s leading galleries, collectives, publishers and artists from across the U.S.  Presented by New York City based curatorial team and artists, Brian Whiteley and Matthew Eck, the event will populate the entire Catalina Hotel – including guest rooms, suites and public spaces – to bring individual and progressive concepts in cutting-edge visual art. SELECT Fair will offer free admission to visitors who will experience a convenient location in the epicenter of Art Basel, just steps away from the Miami Beach Convention Center.

“December marks the beginning of the season in Miami Beach and Art Basel is, without a doubt, one of our busiest weeks of the entire year,” said owner of The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club, Nathan Lieberman.  “We consider The Catalina one of our most progressive hotel concepts and we are excited to welcome one of today’s most progressive art exhibits to our property.  This is the first occasion the hotel will undergo such an extensive transformation within each of our rooms and the global spectrum of visitors to the city will experience one of the most sophisticated and cutting-edge expositions on offer during the year’s most celebrated week for the international art world.”
A hand-picked selection of the most visionary artists and exhibitors will be featured at this year’s SELECT Fair, including mixed media specialist, Evan Boggess, from West Virginia; the jazz-inspired artist, James Dupree from Dupree Gallery in Philadelphia; the connoisseur of sensory and visual dialogue, Frank Hyder, from Frank Hyder Studio in Philadelphia and Miami; exhibitor of works by artists from the Diaspora, RFA Gallery, from New York; Urban Studio, from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and collections by artists from the Brodsky Center at Rutgers University in New Jersey.

“We are pleased to present one of our most diverse and emblematic expositions to date,” said SELECT Fair co-director, Brian Whiteley. “SELECT Fair will transform the entire 64 rooms in the Catalina Hotel into a high-energy, collective gallery, representing the country’s foremost artistic talent. All of the public space will be taken over by installations and performances, making SELECT the most eventful and dynamic satellite fair on South Beach. A small section of the fair will be set-aside for independent print dealers and printmakers. SELECT provides a platform for established practitioners and emerging artisans to co-exist in a unique environment, and our new location on Collins Avenue is an ideal venue to exhibit contemporary art during Art Basel.”
Highlights over the four-day exhibition include a performance by Grace Exhibition Space, NYC; guided VIP tours from Brady Dreasher; DJ and live music at SELECT Fair parties, in addition to specialty cocktails served at the bars throughout The Catalina Hotel. SELECT Fair video contest winners will be showcased in The Catalina Hotel lobby during the course of exhibition.
