Miami is set to transform into a canvas for art, parties and happenings during Art Basel Miami Beach from Dec. 4-7. Here’s your guide to the hottest hotel parties of the week.
eBoy Art Collective at InterContinental Miami
The InterContinental Miami (100 Chopin Plaza, Miami; 305-577-1000) will feature a Miami “pixorama”—a pixelated, cartoon-like cityscape—by art collective eBoy (pictured at top) for Art Basel with a private unveiling and cocktail party, Wednesday, Dec. 3. The work will be on display on the hotel’s digital art screens, video walls and its 19-story exterior digital canvas through Dec. 31. Free and open to the public.
BaselBikes at Ritz-Carlton South Beach
In collaboration with the Diana Lowenstein Gallery, the Ritz-Carlton South Beach (One Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach; 786-276-4006) presents BaselBikes, a bike share program feautring custom Republic Bikes created by Miami-based artists Felice Grodin, Michael Loveland and Alex Trimino. The bikes will be a part of a 14-day online auction starting Dec. 4 benefiting Morningside K-8 Academy, University of Wynwood and La Liga Contra el Cancer center. A cocktail reception will be held Dec. 4, 6:30 – 9 p.m.
1980s Pop Art at Living Room at W Hotel South Beach
The W Hotel South Beach will present a new exhibition in its Living Room lobby bar featuring eclectic, museum-quality work by major artists from the pop art movement during the 1980s, including Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Julian Schnabel, Keith Haring and George Condo. Dec. 2 – 7.
Markus&Koala’s Live Photo Shoot with Nina Agdal at National Hotel

MTV Re:Define Cocktail Party, Donald Robertson & More at Shelborne Wyndham Grand
The lobby of the newly anointed Shelborne Wyndham Grand (1801 Collins Ave., 305-531-1271) will feature a site-specific installation of 300 teddy bears by artist Rachel Lee Hovnanian called “Poor Teddy MB,” as well as Lola Montes’ paintings exploring heaven in the café and lobby through Dec. 8.
MTV Re:Define will honor renowned British artist Michael Craig-Martin on the Shelborne’s Marine Deck with a private cocktail reception Friday, Dec. 5, 6 – 8 p.m.
Cult favorite illustrator Donald Robertson along with Smashbox cosmetics are pulling up to the Shelborne Wyndham Grand in a 1974 Cadillac El Dorado covered in one of the artist’s prints, while also launching Smashbox’s Legendary Lipstick in Bing. Songstress Cat Shell will perform as Kitty Carmichael in her signature 1920s jazz remix-style at Regent Cocktail Club on Dec. 4, 10 p.m. – Midnight.
Architectural Digest Oasis Lounge & Blue Forest at The James Royal Palm
Follow designer Lucio Micheletti’s blue-wrapped palm trees to The James Royal Palm (1545 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; 305-604-5700) during Art Basel for his “Blue Forest” installation in front of the hotel, drawing awareness to the environment in partnership with Architectural Digest.
The magazine will also host the AD Oasis Lounge at James Royal Palm as a relaxing retreat for VIPs throughout the week. Envisioned by interior designer Thom Filicia, the Oasis is part art and design gallery, part dining and cocktail experience and part boutique and lounge. The lounge will kickoff with a cocktail reception hosted by Filicia and Architectural Digest editor Margaret Russell Dec. 3, 6 – 8 p.m. The lounge is open daily, Dec. 4 – 6, 1 – 7 p.m.
Gapingvoid and Dash of Art at Surfcomber
The Surfcomber (1717 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; 305-532-7715) presents local cartoonist gapingvoid’s thought-provoking art and dynamic roundtable discussions exploring culture, design, technology and Miami with DO SOMETHING THAT MATTERS featuring 12 “ah ha” poolside installations. Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen of Snarkitecture will set the mood inside the lobby with a large scale, site-specific installation, Dec. 1-14.
A photo exhibition by Raphael Mazzucco will be on display Dec. 1 – 8, and Bally’s Triangle Walks will be installed in the Orchard, Nov. 28 – Dec. 9.
