Vegan burgers, cupcakes and beer gardens? This food festival takes Miami vegans seriously

The SEED Food and Wine Festival returns for a fifth year.

The plant-based-palooza known as SEED Food and Wine Festival returns for a fifth year this weekend hosting events from November 7 – 11 all over town. Look forward to intimate chef-focused dinners, a tasting village, a fashion show and a yoga brunch. Here we’ve rounded up what’s new and exciting for this year’s festival.

1. Brand Bootcamp

Social media is a strong component of the plant-based food industry.

Got an idea for the next Impossible Burger? If you’re hoping to corner a market share on the vegan food industry – which is booming, by the way, to the tune of $2.22 billion – then head to the seminar presented by Start Up FIU FOOD and South Florida Food & Beverage Association. The day will feature workshops and panels from strategies to secure investors, to getting on the shelves, to market strategies.
8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9
Location: American Airlines Arena, 601 Biscayne Blvd.
Admission: $50

Saturday’s Festival Day Tasting Village is a meat-and-dairy-free utopia with 180 exhibitors proffering food, drink, speakers, demos, shopping and music. A highlight of this year’s Tasting Village is the Brown Distributing Craft Beer Garden featuring live music by the French Horn Collective and eight different craft breweries.

4. Taste vegan burgers from around the country

Vegan burgers at SEED.

The 4th Annual Plant Based Burger Battle will have 11 competitors all paired with craft beers and kombucha and among this year’s competitors are L.A.’s Burgerlords veggie burger – which LA Magazine named  one of the “13 Veggie Burgers in L.A. You Need to Eat Before You Die.” Also on the roster is Denver’s Meta Burger with a plant-based mac and cheese burger (made with an eggplant-based cheese). And for dessert – a s’mores bar courtesy of vegan marshmallow brand DANDIES. Who says vegan can’t be decadent?

5. A guilt-free indulgence

Attendees at SEED.

Unique to this year’s festival, SEED will have a ZERO carbon footprint. The environmental impact for these types of events typically can be significant, but the SEED festival will counteract this with the use of solar energy, composting, food recovery, bike share programs, Smart Cars and carpools to transport talent. Additionally, there will be no plastic straws, and they have established a TerraPass account (which provides carbon offsetting products to individuals, business, and events).
