Pro AM Respect the DJ 2012 DJ Battle

Anyone who has ever dreamed of stepping behind the decks and rocking the crowd with mad turntable skills will go crazy over this event: The Scratch DJ Academy Miami presents the Pro AM Respect the DJ 2012 DJ Battle. The sure-to-be-epic contest, hosted by RIP City and DJ Scratch himself, features students of the academy showcasing their newfound spinning and mixing abilities.

But it’s not just for show: The winner – judged by DJ Scratch, Mix Master Ice, Mr. MIXX, Mista Long and DJ Trails – scores a sweet trophy and, oh yeah, $3,500 worth of prizes. Starving artist no more!

It all goes down from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Scratch DJ Academy, 2 NE 40th St., #304, Miami; www.hiphopelements.com – and it’s free!

The academy, founded in Los Angeles in 2002 by Rob Principe and the late Jam Master Jay, opened its Miami branch in 2005, and has featured celebrity DJs such as Samantha Ronson, Marc Ronson, Lil Jon, DJ Irie, DJ AM, Jazzy Jeff and many more.
