You’re invited to an annual fundraiser for a good cause (plus a Hollywood theme)

Brian Cousineau has had his share of bad luck over the years.

In 1988, doctors discovered a cyst  on his spinal cord and after surgery,  it took over a year to get back on his feet.

In 1994 came another blow: Cousineau was diagnosed with testicular cancer. After overcoming this and becoming cancer free, he then had to get yet another spinal cord surgery, in which he lost the use of his legs.

About a dozen surgeries later, he now spends his life in a wheelchair.

But through it all, friends and family say he’s never lost his spirit.

“We see Brian as a man who is forever positive, one who has the best to offer for the ones he truly loves,” says his cousin Jayden Cousineau on a GoFundMe site to help assist with his vast medical needs. “He doesn’t speak of the bad or the ugly, which is why his drive for fulfilling life is so strong.”

On Saturday night, his supporters will gather to help him, and have some fun in the process. Cousineau’s annual fundraiser has a Hollywood theme and guests are asked to dress up as their favorite star.

Expected to attend: Alan Brown, who runs a foundation dedicated to improving those living with paralysis.

The party starts at 7:30 p.m. at David Posnack JCC, 5850 S Pine Island Rd, in Davie. There will be a silent auction, DJ, raffle, dancing, food and more.
