Serving as the first Hyatt property on Miami Beach, Hyatt Centric South Beach Miami (1600 Collins Ave., South Beach; 305-428-1234) opened its doors this month as Hyatt Hotels Corporation’s second hotel under its new Hyatt Centric lifestyle brand following the Chicago debut. Located on Collins Avenue and 16th Street across the street from the Loews Hotel and just a block away from Lincoln Road, Hyatt Centric is committed to putting their guests in the center of the action, as the name implies. “Hyatt Centric South Beach captures the spirit of South Beach and inspires guests to explore the best that the area has to offer,” says Robert Finvarb, the hotel’s developer who happens to be a Miami Beach native. “Guests will be steps away from the best in culture, dining, and nightlife.”
A 10-story glass tower by architect Kobi Karp, the hotel houses 105 guest rooms and a third-floor social space that includes the front desk, Deck Sixteen restaurant and an indoor-outdoor lounge that leads to a plunge pool deck. The common areas are minimalist and elegant in a mostly neutral color palate with pops of yellow and walls lined with books as varied as a biography on A-Rod to Jonathan Franzen’s novel Freedom. Rooms are equally stylish with open bathroom concepts, artwork curated by local gallerist Dina Mitrani and sweeping city and ocean views.
The brand is more about discovering the city, rather than retreating inside a resort. “Hyatt Centric South Beach is positioned to deliver on the brand’s commitment to put guests in the middle of the action and inspire them to explore the destination,” says Sandra Micek, Hyatt’s global senior vice president of brands. With that in mind, guests are equipped with custom-designed bicycles and a map of South Beach featuring jogging trails, as well as local-approved restaurants, bars, nightclubs and activities. They’ve also partnered with Exhale Spa South Beach across the street where guests can enjoy discounted spa services and fitness classes.
Conversely, their Deck Sixteen, a Spanish-Mediterranean restaurant, aspires to be a destination that both locals and travelers will call home. Tapping executive chef William Milian, formerly of the Mondrian and Como hotels, to create a seasonal, farm-to-table menu, he’s utilizing Miami’s local purveyors and flavors. Current highlights include a grass-fed burger with Peruvian aji amarillo aioli, a Cuban sandwich with manchego cheese and Ashley Farms all-natural half chicken. Their cocktail menu is equally ambitious featuring fresh fruits, herbs and infused syrups and spirits in a menu that includes a pineapple-lemongrass caipirinha, a gin and tonic with grapefruit juice and a rosemary sprig, and a smoky tequila cocktail with mezcal, priced at $14 each.
With opening rates starting at $199, Hyatt Centric is the latest lifestyle hotel in Miami to open with a commitment to offering stylish accommodations at affordable prices with the modern traveler in mind–a trend we’re happy to see gaining momentum in the hospitality world.
