Miami-Dade County Fair

No need to cover your ears and run for the suburbs because of the Winter Music Conference invasion this week. There are plenty of things going on around town to keep you occupied and that don’t require plastic wristbands.

Bluesfest

Want to see music that comes from an instrument and not a computer? Head to the Coral Gables Bluesfest for four days of national and local blues artists.  Featured artists include
 The Daddy Wags Trio, Joey Gilmore featuring Aishya Z, Bill Wharton “The Sauce Boss”, IKO IKO, Deck 52, Steve Thorpe, Hep Cap Boo Daddies and many more.

Sony Ericsson Open 

Watch the top tennis players Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Andy Murray, and Rafael Nadal and others face off in Key Biscayne.  The tournament will also feature events aplenty that will give you a chance to rub (tennis) elbows with the players, like fashion shows, cocktail parties and pool parties so you don't have to sit in the hot sun or pouring rain for the next two weeks to get a glimpse of Rafael Nadal.

Arteaméricas

Check out what some of Latin American and the Caribbean’s most talented artists have been working on at this exhibition showcasing more than 300 artists.  Exhibit includes painting, sculpture and multimedia.

Miami-Dade County Fair

It’s that time of year again!  Time to stuff your face with elephant ears and fight the teenagers for a spot on the Pirate Ship.  Whether you want to check out the performing arts competitions or see who has the biggest livestock, the Fair has something for everyone, even folks who want to waste all their cash on carnival games.

Deering Seafood Festival

Have a taste of the ocean’s bounty at Deering Seafood Festival, where local celeb chefs will give cooking demos, the kids can play in the Shrimp Kids Zone and the whole family can fill their gut as they listen to live Caribbean music.

The Arsht Center

The Adrienne Arsht center has several great shows this week that promise not to kill any brain cells.  America’s premier dance company, The Joffrey Ballet is visitng for two shows March 26 and 27 to perform an array of dances.   The Second City comedy troupe is in town with “El Show Mas Funny” featuring a new generation of comedic talent.  Also, don’t miss the New World School of the Arts Rising Star Showcase, in which the students of the symphony orchestra, theater and dance perform.

Reggaeton

White Lion Records celebrates its 15th anniversary with a reggaetón concert featuring the biggest names in the industry.  Get ready for Tego Calderon, Calle 13, Ivy Queen, Julio Voltio and more on the same stage.

Movies at the Spa at Icon Brickell

It may seem random but the Spa at Icon Brickell has a cozy little theater that seats a few dozen and has been screening great throw back films for months. Tuesday night you can see a classic Almodovar flick Tacones Lejanos and Saturday you can see cult classic Priscilla Queen of the Desert. The $12 admission includes gourmet popcorn and a cupcake. Yum!

Grove Coconut Hunt

The whole family will love the Grove’s unique spin on the classic Easter egg hunt. Dozens of coconuts, artistically painted like Easter Eggs, will be placed along Grand Avenue between CocoWalk and the Shoppes at Mayfair. The Easter Bunny will preside over the festivities and there will be prizes and giveaways.
