Whitney Houston remembered by Fontainebleau Miami Beach
Shot scenes for The Bodyguard there
2/12/2012
Whitney Houston spent a lot of time at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel while shooting The Bodyguard in 1992. Many scenes were shot there (remember the explosive Rachel sign?) The hotel issued a statement Saturday night extending condolences to the Houston family. “We are deeply saddened to learn of Whitney Houston's passing and send our sincere sympathies to her family and fans around the world. Fontainebleau is forever grateful to the legendary icon for allowing us to play a small part in her unforgettable legacy” said Jeff Soffer, owner and CEO of the iconic hotel. Scenes from the blockbuster also starring Kevin Costner were filmed at the 15th floor penthouse suite, the oceanfront pool and TROPIGALA, now known as LIV nightclub. Houston’s voice was heard throughout the property Saturday evening, as the lobby Bleau Bar, DJ K Razor, paid tribute by mixing sounds of her greatest hits. As word of the artists’ death quickly spread, hotel guests were stunned at the news. In 2009, there were negotiations to launch the seventh and final studio album I Look to You during a live national television broadcast from the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. Houston’s return to the property for the launch never materialized due to scheduling conflicts with the artist and studio.
