What we’re checking out this week
Fun, fun, fun in the sun. Spring break is in full swing. Victoria’s Secret PINK is coming to Miami Beach, pulling out all the supermodel stops. VS PINK’s Behati Prins...
If you want something (a lot) fancier than green beer for St. Pat’s, try this on for size: Hennessy Privilege VSOP Cognac. It’s how all the hot celebs are getting their buzz on. The so-called Halo bottle – a pink metallic thing that looks like it could survive a nuclear war – was just unveiled at a private dinner at SoHo Beach House earlier this month. Taste-making socialites like Evelyn Lozada, Tommy Pooch and Beau Beasley ( Big Brother) all tried and liked it. How could they not? The cognac is well aged and appropriately pampered with a touch of vanilla. Hennessy Privilege is at liquor stores for $39.99 (750 ml). The pink bottle, which will sell for $79.99, isn’t available yet.
If you’re looking for a place to park your liver on St. Patrick’s Day, look no further than Fado Irish Pub, which recently opened in Mary Brickell Village. This five-room, Victorian-style spot sure is pretty, with plush velvet chairs, dark wood tables and cozy fireplaces. Fado (meaning “long ago’’ in Gaelic) really is St. Patrick’s Day Central. Watch bartenders duke it out in a Guinness pouring contest on Monday; patrons can partake in a pub quiz on Tuesday; Wednesday is a jam session of local musicians; and Thursday, the big day, head to the big outdoor festival. The pub will open its doors at 8 a.m. (yes) for “Pints and Pancakes. Good luck with the hangover. All info at www.fadoirishpub.com/miami/st-patricks-day-2011.
Talking about green – environmentally friendly brand Origins has really done it this time. Plantscription serum, which just hit counters, contains nature’s version of retinoids, anti-aging derivatives of vitamin A that can often cause redness and irritation. Origins claims that bark of the Anogeissus tree in Ghana can do the trick. The extract has long been used to heal wounds and clear breakouts. So the good news is you won’t need to call your dermatologist anymore. Origins says its Plantscription alternative to retinoid proved 88 percent as effective as the prescription version. $55 for 1 ounce at Origins stores.
