Veronica Webb could so easily be a diva.
The co-host of Bravo's Tim Gunn's Guide to Style is not only drop-dead gorgeous but she's an actress (Jungle Fever, Malcolm X), writer (Paper magazine) and one of the world's first African American supermodels.
But chat with the 43-year-old Detroit native, and you'll feel like you've known her since 10th-grade biology class.
It's that lulling, sing-song voice and the way she says (sincerely), "What, sweetheart?" when she can't hear your question.
We grabbed Webb, who was in New York recently doing a shoot for Italian Vogue with celeb shutterbug Steven Meisel.
"I feel like I'm in the magic closet from The Devil Wears Prada, " says Webb, who lives in Key West with her husband and two daughters. 'I'm in front of a rack with the most beautiful gowns I've ever seen."
Nice work -- and she can get it.
How is living in Key West?
"It's really great for my daughters [Leila Rose, 5 and Molly Blue, 3]. To be a little kid in South Florida is amazing. They are very fortunate to be able to be near the water, birds, animals and nature. They're always fishing or doing something outside."
What do you like about Miami?
"I adore the steak at Prime 112 and do a lot of shopping on Lincoln Road. I love hanging out at En Avance; it's like a social LexisNexis."
How has your experience been on Guide to Style? Any tips?
"The show was such a beautiful way to help ordinary people. Sometimes it's as simple as looking the part. Tips? 1. True beauty is from the inside out, so keep it clean. Break a sweat every day. 2. Do a juice fast once a year and watch your face and body blossom. 3. Go for broke when it comes to finding a good pair of jeans. That doesn't mean spending a ton of money. Invest your time in finding a great fit."
What are your plans?
"I'm not coming back for Season 2. Tim will be back, though. I'm doing a show for BBC World called Living Style. Everyone wants to know how to live fabulous lives; we go behind the scenes into this world. We interviewed Lenny Kravitz in his studio and Kylie Minogue, who actually talked to us from her bed. It's something different."
