  • Miami Spa Month 2010

I discovered Emena Spa through a third party vendor who offered collective group discounts for their services. Groupon (the third party) advertised a $99 special which included 6 laser treatments to remove unwanted hair from a pre-determined list of areas available. I paid $99 and adventured into this new experience of getting my arms hair removed completely. At my second visit, the technician administering the laser treatment informed me of some great specials they were running for that month only and everything was 50% off. So I asked: “How much would it cost to get my mustache hair removed?” To what she answered $40 something dollars. And then she proceeded to give me prices to remove my hair completely in areas such as arm pits, bikini line, chin and it all added up to $227.50 roughly. I said “Geez that’s a lot of money I am not ready to pay for, but if it will remove my hair forever, lets do it!”. At my third visit, the now new technician informed me she could not treat me because they had scheduled me too close in between appointments and if she did she could burn my skin. She also asked me several questions because my chart was empty and no records of what had been done or answers to critical questions regarding family history of skin cancer, etc had been recorded. She admitted the staff prior her was not qualified enough to be performing these procedures as they were only aestethicians and not trained and certified properly but not to worry because they re-staffed the whole facility and now they knew what they were doing. My first alert went up! How could they be operating in such a reckless manner endangering people’s lives? I walked out with the determination I was going to let the third party vendor know so they would not feature this facility again because their systems were definitely not solid enough to treat the public. I scheduled my fourth appointment because after all, I had already paid for the $99 through Groupon for my arms, and $227.50 again for my arm pits, chin, mustache and bikini line so I could get my unwanted hair removed completely even though they seemed unstable in my second visit. After being treated at my fourth appointment, I gave the receptionist the tip for the technician and she advised me it was $227.50. I was in shock and told her there had to be a mistake because I had already paid for my treatments. She said it was $227.50 what I had paid for but now it was $227.50 again and for every single visit until my hair was removed completely. I was very upset then. Not only I was lied to, but the money so far spent was not going to really remove my unwanted hair, unless I was ready to un pocket another over $1000 dollars. I explained to the receptionist what I had been told and she admitted there were other many customers (about 80) who were also misled by this previous employee and thats why she didn’t work there anymore. She then put the owner on the phone who simply said she was sorry about my “misunderstanding” but I had to pay because they treated me that day. Again, a single treatment does not remove hair, a series of treatments do. I would have not purchased a single treatment only nor would have agreed to over $1000 to do so. The phone conversation heated up, she yelled, insulted me and I hang up and walked out of there. No hair removed and my money and time gone. Next morning I see they made an unauthorized charge to my bank account for another $227.50. At this point I only had about $200 dollars to purchase needs for my 18 months old boy. They took all of my money with no permission just to add to their negligence and unprofessional modus operandi leaving me and my family in distress. I must mention that because of their treatments I was advised by their technicians to start shaving and not plucking. My hair regrew back now 1000 times more so in the end I did not only remove my hair but grew more hair and paid $554 for it.... Read more
