Miami is to me...

I am a Puerto Rican with a huge love for Miami and everything it has to offer. Some of my favorite pastimes include spinning, pin-up modeling, trying out cocktails for my column, reading good teen novels a...

  • If a band plays in Urban Outfitters but nobody hears, does it make a sound?

I love your blog, as usual :) And I totally agree...granted, when I saw The Walkmen it was in the now non-existent three-story 80's and indie-music spot, Soho Lounge, and it was bound to be packed there...but it's sad to see such an awesome band playing and no one taking the time to show up. It's depressing. I hope this doesn't stop them from coming on over to MIA again...or any other cool band, for that matter. Sigh.... Read more
  • Festivus for the Restivus

AH! It all sounds like it was so exciting. I need a music festival...ASAP. Like my Coachella experience where I saw Coldplay and Nine Inch Nails back to back only to be even more swept away by Kasabian, The Raveonettes and The Futureheads in smaller stages. I have high hopes for Keane coming here to promote their new album. I'm babbling now though...point is, Miami needs more music like you very clearly mentioned. Let's hope Langerado somewhat saves us and The Walkmen gives us a brief taste of good rock before other acts come along (crossing fingers).... Read more

  • And the Beat Goes On

It's so funny you mentioned this in your blog because I posted the story on Facebook. I am rooting for them to make it and get back on their feet. They will.... Read more
  • Reading is Fun-damental

I love your blog for many things...especially the fact that I agree with you on reading. So many people have tossed this habit to the backburner. I still smile whenever I get my hands on an old R.L. Stine Fear Street book or a Sweet Valley High oldie. I can't imagine a childhood without losing myself in a book, and worry that the upcoming generation is going to miss out on that. And that whole banned books thing? I absolutely get mad at that. People should have a choice on what book to read...not have that choice be made for them.... Read more
  • Opinionated Much?

I agree with you. Ever since I moved to Miami four years ago, there hasn't been a place that has felt more like home to me, yet at the same time made me feel so isolated. In San Juan, we take pride on our neighborhoods and have no problem lashing out...I feel like Miami needs to join forces and feel more passion for all the amazing things the city has to offer. People read online blurbs yet have nothing to say about the subject...weird. No one from Miami seems to join in on any deep discussions... even if it's just a random "heavy discussions" about their favorite spa or lunch spot. It's quite disheartening. But I have faith in us and in this place I now call home.... Read more
