Over the course of the last year there’s been a lot of hubbub around South Beach’s Collins Park neighborhood. Initially, it was the members only pop-up concept Sweetwater Beer Garden at the Ansonia Building last summer. Then, Odd Fellows Speakeasy had a moment in the spotlight at the adjacent Plymouth Hotel during Miami Art Week. These two blips on the nightlife radar were a signal of what’s to come from Think Hotel Group. They’re cultivating something of a hospitality monopoly along 21st Street between Collins Avenue and Park Avenue.

Their portfolio includes the Boulan South Beach (condominiums converted into an all-suite luxury boutique hotel), South Beach Hotel (236 21st St., Miami Beach; 305-531-3464), Ansonia, Plymouth Hotel and Orange Blossom restaurant (formerly Charles St.).

While Boulan has been a fixture on Collins Avenue since 2010, South Beach Hotel opened its doors to guests at the start of 2014 (an official grand opening party is expected this summer). Its front courtyard designed by Cadence Planning + Designing will be the site of Sweetwater’s permanent return (when exactly is still TBD).

The Ansonia and Plymouth are both undergoing construction and renovations with plans to open as two new boutique hotels in 2015, while Orange Blossom serves as both a freestanding restaurant, as well as the food and beverage operation for this “campus” of hotels along the southern perimeter of Collins Park.

The newly opened South Beach Hotel is a 51-room restored Art Deco boutique hotel with a modern, minimalist design. The lobby retains its original terrazzo flooring and Deco flourishes, while featuring hand-carved Guatemalan wood furniture, a cushy tufted sofa and plush area rugs. The work of local contemporary artist Santino Sverdlov (Santlov) is hung throughout the lobby, as well as inside guest rooms.

In fact, art is a major throughline of Think Hotel Group’s ethos. During Sweetwater’s pop-up at the Ansonia, the building was used as studio space for visiting artists. The Boulan has a $6 million collection throughout, and the fusion of art and hospitality will continue to unfold with THG’s development. The location adjacent to such South Beach cultural meccas as The Bass Museum of Art and Miami City Ballet was no mistake either, as the group aims to draw attention to what they call the Miami Beach Arts District.

South Beach Hotel is designed to attract a wide swath of travelers with its spacious, modern rooms, affordable price point and prime location less than a block from the ocean. Unique amenities include complimentary croquet, bicycles, beach chairs, yoga mats and picnic blankets to allow guests to take full advantage of the area.

“As we continue to expand, Think Hotel Group is excited to put South Beach Hotel on the map as a prime destination for Miami Beach-lovers looking for chic décor and comfortable, yet affordable accommodations in the heart of the most exciting neighborhood in South Beach,” says co-owner Hunter Gellin.

While introductory rates started at $175 per night at South Beach Hotel, weekend rates in May start at $280 according to the website’s booking engine.
