In this world of pop-up enterprise, the Wynwood Yard, a community gathering space in the heart of Miami’s artistic mecca, is capitalizing on the momentum of Miami’s emerging culinary vanguard by establishing a “culinary incubator” in the event space. The idea is to provide a venue for local food and beverage entrepreneurs to innovate and perfect their concepts in a finished location while providing access to mentoring and financial advisers who can help steer the creatives in the right direction.
Four pop-up culinary concepts will occupy the space initially, including Della Test Kitchen, offering plant-based dishes; omakase sushi food truck Myumi; Middle Eastern fare from The Arabian Knife and Vibe 305, serving up Americana-influenced cuisine prepared by young men from Empowered Youth, a local non-profit that provides training and job opportunities, under the supervision of chef Bradley Kilgore of Wynwood’s Alter. For the boozehounds, they’ve got you covered as well with award-winning bartender Ricardo Rodriguez (formerly of FINKA Table & Tap) and chef Ken Lyon serving up custom beverages at THYME, the Yard’s outdoor bar.
Wynwood Yard CEO and founder Della Heiman expressed her excitement about the prospects of the venture in a statement: “We’re building a collaborative ecosystem where entrepreneurs can rapidly test, iterate, and incubate ideas on a daily basis. Start-ups will continuously hone their product based on real-time customer feedback, resulting in surprising new experiences for guests each time they visit The Wynwood Yard.”
On the horizon for The Wynwood Yard will be LivBox, a prototypical sustainable container home by design start-up Wyn-Box, which creates compact and efficient living spaces that could translate on a larger scale within the context of Miami. LivBox will be available in the future as an event space for dinner parties and events at The Wynwood Yard.
To celebrate the launch of this new culinary incubator, Wynwood Yard is hosting a Garden Party on Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The itinerary includes live cooking demos by Della Test Kitchen and Myumi, craft cocktails by chef and mixologist Ken Lyon, live music by Juke and a multisensory performance by Alma Dance Theater.
