Cafeina Wynwood, 297 NW 23rd St., may be on the cutting edge of Wynwood hipness, but during its new Thursday night WINwood Gamebar parties, it’s all about what’s retro again, with a playful yet edgy night of old school game stations including Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo as well as “throwback jams from the ’90s and early 2000s” by DJ Self Born, who was probably a fetus during those halcyon days. Craft beer specials all night long at $5, plus $2 perros, chicken kebabs, sliders, ribs and French fries are all a very nostalgic $2. The party takes place every Thursday from 5 p.m. until midnight, which is perfect because for some who were already out of their mothers’ uteri back then, midnight was probably their curfew.
Wet Hyde American Summer
Although some would say living on South Beach is like adult summer camp, why not get outta dodge just a tiny bit on Memorial Day Weekend and head a slight bit north to Hyde Beach Kitchen + Cocktails, 111 S. Surf Road, Hallandale Beach, for a weekend of Summer Camp-esque camp, starting from noon to 6 p.m. Friday with a traditional beach barbecue. On Saturday, things get really campy, starting at noon with a burger eating contest, water balloon fight, life sized Jenga and Connect Four. On Sunday, it’s Bends and Brunch, a special rooftop yoga class at 10 a.m. for $12. For those who prefer to drink rather than sweat, there’s Waves and Rose, a brunch featuring bottomless bottles of Whispering Angel rose for $30. Last, but not least, not quite Color War, but a Hyde Miami “takeover” on the 3rd floor from 3 p.m. until closing and on Monday, a beach volleyball tourney from 10 a.m. until sunset.
You just never know what whimsy will take place next at The Wynwood Yard, 56 NW 29th St., but from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, you’ll get to live life in a proverbial–and literal–bubble with Battle Ball Royale, where Tactivate and Weekend PE provide the battle ball bubble suits in which you’ll get to bump, bash and steamroll into your closest pals for big laughs and bruises. A $25 ticket includes two rounds of play and choice of snack from one of the yard’s resident food concepts including Mr. Bing, Bird & Bone, della test kitchen or Mortar & Pistil. Tickets and more information available here.
Sunday, Fruity Sunday
Sundays are fun, yes, we know based on your rhyming hashtags and Instagram pix, but they are also alliterative, which is why Sangria Sundays sound so splendid. If you don’t believe us, head to Cleo South Beach at The Redbury Hotel, 1776 Collins Ave., where, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. every Sunday, there will be half-off glasses and pitchers of the restaurant’s delicious sangrias–red, white and a specialty pink made with rosé. #SangriaSundays are fun days, blessed days and all that hashtag jazz.
