For those of you who thought Coral Gables was just a place to shop for your “big day,” you may want to revisit historic Miracle Mile and its neighboring streets. Besides being one of South Florida’s most charming streets, the Gables is a Mecca for stylish boutiques. Whether you’re looking for exotic jewelry, recession friendly fashions or couture, the quaint locale has a large variety to choose from — all sandwiched in between the white gown shops, of course. Here are a few must-see shops…
1) Curves N’ Waves
Touted as one of the best swimsuit shops in Miami, Curves N’ Waves (275 Miracle Mile) is a must-visit for a vast array of swimsuits and coverups. The store is chockfull of coveted labels such as Mara Hoffman, Vitamin A, Agua Bendita, Frankie’s and more. Not limited to beachwear, shoppers can scoop up colorful and flowy dresses and tops, too. Also up for keeps? Keep-cool accessoires in the shape of fedoras and scarves.
Off the main strip next to the popular bakery Chocolate Fashion is Habit Boutique (256 Anadlusia Ave.). This small but must-visit shop is a girly-girl’s dream. Adorned with antique furniture, including a coffee table full of gossip and fashion mags, and vibrant colored walls, Habit’s styles are primarily by local designers and every item is less than $100. The store includes femme-faves such as Lush cotton dresses, Rubber Ducky linen pants and an array of flowy skirts, jeweled sandals and plaid tops. From the trendy accessories to the classic threads, all items in this store are versatile, comfortable and staples to any wardrobe — and can be scooped up without buyer’s remorse.
3) Peace Love World
All we need is love, right? Well, a brand that’s in complete autonomy with this humble notion, Peace Love World (225 Miracle Mile), houses its flagship store on Downtown Coral Gables’ Miracle Mile. Peace Love World’s philosophy is as simple as it sounds: Spread peace, love and happiness wherever and whenever possible. And you can spot Peace Love World pieces on A-listers such as Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Ellen Degeneres, Kim Kardashian, Sophia Vergara, Jennie Garth, Jennifer Garner, Britney Spears, William Levy and many more. So for a dose of harmony this New Year, swing by the recently opened Miracle Mile store — and see what all the bliss-making buzz is about.
4) Melissa Shoes
Adored for their plastic and fantastic shoes, this Brazilian brand is revered for its yummy scented (yep, these shoes smell as sweet as bubblegum) women’s and children’s sandals. The Melissa boutique (216 Miracle Mile) sells its entire collection there, plus their increasingly popular range of collaborations with designers such as Jason Wu, Gareth Pugh, Vivienne Westwood, Karl Lagerfeld and Jeremy Scott.
5) The Golden Triangle
Finally, next door to the Coral Gables Diner, a couple blocks off the Mile, is The Golden Triangle (2308 Galiano St.). Thailand native Preeya Sirna founded the emblematic shop to cope with feeling homesick, which ultimately led to a store filled with some of the most unique finds in the city. Everything down to the top-selling incense from India to the costume jewelry from Indonesia is handpicked from its country of origin. “Our customers beg us not to tell anyone about the store — they consider it their hidden treasure,” says Sirna, who meets her mom in Thailand twice a year to shop for new items and adds a new country to her excursion each time.
