Aug. 5 isn’t just Friday, it’s National Oyster Day and for fans of the briny bivalves, Midtown Oyster Bar, 3301 NE First Ave., is throwing a big celebration from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. featuring a self-service oyster bar for a $25 all-you-can-eat-oyster bonanza. To wash it down even further, Wynwood Brewing Company has teamed up with MOB to offer $2 pints of the signature La Rubia. Tickets are required for this and are available at www.eventbrite.com. Oysters are also available at $1 each all day on Friday, so you can get a head start if you want.
Carrying the Torch
While some athletes decided to skip out on this summer’s Olympics, you can still catch the competitions between those who did brave Rio from the swank confines of The Lounge at The Setai, Miami Beach, 2001 Collins Ave., where, from Aug. 5-21, The Lounge will transform into a much less crowded Copacabana Beach setting from which the games will be televised on a big screen. For those who want to go all out on the theme, order the specialty cocktail Olympic-Rings, a mix of vodka, lemon and lime and champagne, accompanied with Life Savers or gummy rings.
The Butcher Shop Beer Garden & Grill, 165 NW 23rd St., is hacking through the lazy days of summer with its first annual Arts and Kegs Summer Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11. To participate, buy a beer for the first round and in exchange, The Butcher Shop will provide a beer stein to be used as a blank canvas. The top four contestants of the night will move on to the second and final round – kegs, which will take place Thursday, Aug. 25. Each beer stein and keg masterpiece will be displayed around the restaurant and patrons will get a chance to vote for their favorite piece on the night of each round. First place winner will be awarded a $100 gift certificate to The Butcher Shop and the chance for the winning piece to remain on display. The second place winner will receive a $75 gift certificate, the third, a $50 gift certificate and the fourth, a $25 gift certificate.
Raising the Roof
While tops are optional for some who work at E11EVEN, 15 NE 11th St., there is no top on the roof, which is wide open every Saturday night for Rooftop Saturdays, featuring a DJ set by Wasabi, closing set by Zeus and an afterhours show, The Morning Show, from 3 a.m.-close with DJ Shamizo. There will also be plenty of hookahs, a food menu and, of course, cocktails. And while there is no cover charge to these festivities, clothing, on the other hand is not optional.
