Keep your money in your pocket and entertain the family with these free and cheap events this weekend, from free boat parades to holiday events to outdoor movie screenings. And don’t forget to include a meal from one of the restaurants in our listing of best cheap Cuban food in Miami. Enjoy!
1. Ahoy, mates
Living on the coast means we celebrate the holidays with lighted boats sailing on the water. Miami has THREE holiday boat parades and they are all free to view from the shore: the Miami Outboard Club Holiday Boat Parade at Bayfront Park, the North Beach holiday boat parade and the rescheduled (due to inclement weather last week) Holiday by the Bay in Palmetto Bay. All are on Dec. 17 so unfortunately you’ll have to choose one. But I appreciate that they seem to be perfectly located for north, central and south folks. Click on the links for more info.
2. Freebies with Santa
Miami On The Cheap has an ongoing “free and cheap Miami holiday events” post that is continuously being updated with a ton of events that include everything from Christmas to Chanukah. This weekend such goodies include discounted tickets to holiday theater shows, a holiday carnival with amusement rides in Palmetto Bay, a holiday concert in Westchester and free admission to the Perez Art Museum Miami with a toy. Last weekend’s inclement weather rescheduled a few holiday events for this weekend, including the Miracle at Schenley Park. (Of course, northerners would scoff at what we call “inclement weather.”) Click the link for more info.
3. Free family movies
Looking for a way to entertain the kids without having to run after them? Outdoor family movies are a great way to keep those little ones sitting down. This weekend’s showings include the animated “The Good Dinosaur” in Hialeah and “Big” starring Tom Hanks and Elf” starring Will Ferrel in a double-feature in Dadeland. 4. Best cheap Cuban food
We are often asked by folks for restaurant recommendations. When in Miami, some of the most delicious cheap food is Cuban cuisine. So we’ve rounded up a list of what we think are not just the most tasty but a good value. Best Cuban sandwich? We’ve got the place for you. Don’t know what to order? We help you there, too.
