Spa fancy: BodySense

The lowdown: Angel Orozco, along with wife Monica Weinhold, travels to Thailand every year to refine his technique, instruct others and sample the latest massages –sometimes twice a day. His practice has taken him to India, Vietnam and China, and he has formulated his own signature massage, a blend of Thai stretching, pressure and oil application.

Despite its ho-hum storefront, a surprisingly lovely, luxe oasis lies within. The place has the sort of substantial furniture, dim lighting and other features found in upscale hotel spas. There are eight massage therapists, all of them vetted by Orozco, known to walk out on a mediocre back rub. Orozco is a chronic pain specialist in alternative medicine and also a holistic health counselor. Tell him you want a massage to help your headaches, you first must tell him what you eat.

Still, Orozco is no killjoy. There are black-and-white photos of gorgeous female models on the walls. One of his most delightful treatments, he says, is a chocolate wrap — followed by a morsel for your tongue.

The ‘hood: Who knew that you’d find such a thoughtfully planned, well-executed place in the middle of Coral Way? Metered parking is readily available on the street.

The vibe: Blissful, slow, intentional.

The highlights:
My guess is that the BodySense Massage, the spa’s fusion massage, is a winner ($100 for 60 minutes; $140 for 90 minutes). The Magic Honey Body Massage, said to be a natural exfoliant, also sounds terrific ($160 for 90 minutes). There’s also acupuncture, ear candling, waxing, plenty of facials and some pain management therapies, among many more rubs, massages and more.

The sweet deal:
Discounts for readers: Mention this story when booking any hourlong massage or longer (prices start at $90) and get an extra half-hour free ($40 value). Purchase 10 sessions of Endermologie, meant to fight cellulite, and get a $100 price reduction (normally $700; now $600). Buy a Chocolate Decadence Massage, which involves a natural cocoa formulation from Italy and a massage with chocolate cream ($180 for 120 minutes) and get a facial for no extra charge ($85 value).
