“Free” is a magic word in so much of life, the arts included. The South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center will kick off its fifth season at 7 p.m. Oct. 10 with a free Backyard Bash — though you do need a ticket to get in, so we’re sharing the news with plenty of time to spare. The party will be outside on the center’s concert lawn, though you’ll be able to tour the Arquitectonica-designed facility to check out its multiple theater spaces. On the program that night are the jazz-swing group Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, New Orleans’ Hot 8 Brass Band, Aaron Lebos and DJ Le Spam. Food trucks will be there, so you won’t go hungry. Bring blankets and lawn chairs for seating. The SMDCAC is at 10950 SW 211th St. in Cutler Bay. Call 786-573-5300 or visit www.smdcac.org for information and tickets.
