This Saturday, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens invites guests to rediscover the lost art of letter writing with a class co-led by the lavish estate’s public programs manager Rebecca Peterson, artist Lea Nickless, and writer Andrea Gollin.
As part of the “Inside Vizcaya Series,” this seminar explores James Deering’s dedication to the property through his meticulous notes, letters to friends, and notes to staff. His chronicles help today’s staff and visitors to the 100-year-old home understand what kind of man Deering was and what life was like in Miami at the time. Participants will combine art using found objects from Vizcaya’s sprawling grounds with letter writing exercises and fresh air starting at 10 a.m. The hosts hope to inspire participants to contemplate their legacy and how letters could help them tell their story to future generations in the disposable digital age.
Admission is $25 for members and $30 for non-members, and includes admission to the estate following the program.
