PARK(ing) Day Miami 2015 returns this Friday with mini parks popping up all over Miami

In the concrete jungle that is Miami sometimes we just need a little break from the hustle of the city. Thanks to PARK(ing) Day Miami, Miami streets are getting a little greener this Friday with several mini parks that will occupy street parking spaces all around the city.

Developed 10 years ago by San Francisco-based design firm Rebar, PARK(ing) Day emerged as an attempt to reclaim and “green” street parking space and has since spread to 160 cities in 35 countries on six continents. Iran, Madagascar, Venezuela and South Korea are among the international participants.

The annual event in Miami is presented by Urban Impact Lab and held in conjunction with world-wide PARK(ing) Day. The temporary pop-up parks, complete with grass, benches, trees and flowers are a call to action to help create a more walkable, healthier community where every resident lives within walking distance of a public park.

Miami-Dade Parks will host activities in two of the 10 temporary pop-up parks on site for PARK(ing) Day 2015. The  free interactive activities and refreshments from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. will take place at Feel Good Park in front of Granny Feelgood’s Restaurant, 25 W. Flagler St., Suite 100 and Eco/Bike305 Park across from Panther Coffee at 2348 NW 2 Ave. (Wynwood).
