The “au natural” beauty look finally took a back seat on the runways at New York Fashion Week’s Fall 2015 shows.
Making a major comeback is the “I spent a couple of hours getting ready” look.
Think glittery manicures and eye accents, lots of dark berry shades of lipstick and black eyeliner as well as dressier lady locks adorned with neatly fastened hair accessories.
In Miami, where women tend to get a little more gussied up, many industry experts believe it’s going to be a good style season in South Florida, especially for businesses.
“One of the things I love about this city is that women will spend their hard earned dollars on looking good and makeup is no exception to that,” said Charlene Batlle, a Fort Lauderdale-based makeup artist who specializes in fashion and bridal makeup.
“Whenever a brand like MAC [Cosmetics] releases a trend or new collection, us makeup artists and the average woman is in line to buy it and it always gets sold out more often than not,” said Batlle.
MAC Cosmetics created many of the catwalk looks on models at Carolina Herrera, Rachel Zoe and Monique Lhuillier’s shows.
Herrera’s show managed to execute many of the upcoming fashion forward beauty trends while still exuding sophistication with her water inspired silhouettes.
At her show, “it” models like Karlie Kloss gracefully stepped out on the runway in cascading ensembles of tulle and gazar with hair perfectly pinned back in low pony tails with metallic holders. A closer look at their faces, revealed false lashes peppered with glitter to resemble dew drops and matte raspberry bold lips from MAC’s upcoming lipstick: “Oh Lady.”
Avon was another fixture at NYFW that Miami women pledge allegiance to when it comes to skincare and makeup.
Selecta Magazine’s Editor in Chief, Jenny Starr Perez, is a fan of the line’s face creams.
“I’ve been using Avon products, particularly skincare, since I was 18. Their moisturizer is amazing,” said Perez.
At Dennis Basso, Avon made sure to make glittery eyes a la 70s glam the center of attention.
Lauren Andersen, Avon’s Global Celebrity Artist, incorporated upcoming trends such as shimmery eyes, glittery nails and berry lip hues to compliment the designer’s luxe collection.
In the world of fashion forward manicures, salons like Christie Pea Nail Spa & Beautique will be focusing on NYFW trends come Fall.
“A lot of my clients walk in daily wanting to know what’s new in nail polish and what the other girls are wearing,” said Christina Ruiz, owner of Christie Pea Nail Spa & Beautique.
According to Ruiz, one of her clients go-to-brands is OPI which was responsible for the rich dark matte manis at BCBGMAXAZRIA, Charlotte Ronson, and Marissa Webb.
When it comes to hair trends, it’s all about a statement-making sleek mane.
Pulled back chic coiff styles, picturesque pin straight hair and loads of headbands, barrettes and ponytail holders are in.
Alexandra Litowitz, owner of local hair accessory line TASSEL, is hoping to cash in on the trend with her embellished headbands and ponytail holders which resemble much of what was seen on the catwalk.
“Our goal is to be ahead of the curve and we are hoping the influence of NYFW’s trend’s will help us grow,” said Litowitz.
