Michael Sayih, a 17-year-old boy from Pembroke Pines, has suffered from Cerebral Palsy since birth, but that hasn’t stopped him from participating in marathons. With his father, Jim, a police officer turned fitness professional, Michael has crossed many finish lines while being pushed in his specialized wheel chair.
Michael wanted to share the joy of participating in community run/walks – while partners provide the propulsion power – with others confined to wheelchairs. He felt that the experience of participating in these events, rather than just sitting on the sidelines watching, was something that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy.
This Saturday South Floridians can participate in Michael’s Special 5k Run/Walk, taking place in Hollywood. Runners are to be at the Bandshell on A1A and Johnson Street, ready to run or walk, either individually or with a loved one who may be unable to run, but still wishes to participate. There will be special appearances by NFL players and other community servants who will serve at water stations throughout the racecourse.
