A Conversation With…Calvin Hughes

The Little Haiti Cultural Center, Northeast Second Ave Partnership, and Perforce presents a monthly conversation series and networking event for young professionals every second Friday with a community leader. This month’s series features Calvin Hughes, WPLG Local 10 news anchor. $10 suggested donation.

2nd Annual Juneteenth Food & Music Festival
Saturday, June 13, 7PM – 10PM – 266 NW 26th St, Wynwood

The Woodson Institute celebrates Emancipation Day and 150 years of freedom for African-Americans with a Juneteenth Food & Music Festival during Wynwood’s Second Saturday Art Walk festival with food, music, and drinks. Although President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, Souther slaves were not declared free until Union troops brought the news two years later in Galveston, TX on June 19, 1865 that the Civil War had ended and that slavery had ended.

8th Annual All Greek Cookout
Saturday, June 13, 11AM – 5PM – Central Broward Regional Park, 3700 NW 11th Place, Lauderhill

The National Panhellenic Council of Broward County presents its annual Greek cookout with all members of the Divine 9 invited to represent their fraternity and sorority. Enjoy music, food, vendors, spade tournament, and bounce house for the kids. Advance tickets $12 and includes admission, food, and beverages, and can be purchased online at General admission at the event $15.

Deltas After Dark – BLACKOUT
Saturday, June 13, 7PM – 11PM – Fat at Gulfstream Park, 601 Silks Run, Hallandale Beach

The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. hosts its annual all black party as the after park for the National Panhellenic Council’s Greek Picnic. Proceeds benefit the scholarship fund and community projects.

Forbidden Island 3
Saturday, June 13, 12PM – 12AM – Private Beach, 1001 MacArthur Cswy

A one of a kind event held on a secret island where patrons are shuttled by a private boat to a tropical island for an exclusive island party and BBQ with music by A Fly Guy, DJ Classic, and more. This is a BYOB cooler event with a two bottle max per person. Shuttle service from the dock is from 12pm – 3pm and resumes again from 6pm – 8pm until the party ends. Tickets are $45 and includes round trip boat transportation and one plate of BBQ with each additional plate $10. Tickets will be more the day of the event. Tickets can be purchased at
