Island massive stand up! It’s Caribbean-American Heritage Month and it’s all one love whether you’re Jamaican, Haitian, Trinidadian, Bahamian, Bajan, St. Lucian or representing any of the Caribbean nations. There’s plenty of events throughout South Florida to choose from to celebrate our heritage, and here’s our some of Miami Soul’s top picks.
Taste of the Caribbean
June 6 – 10 – Hyatt Regency Miami, 400 NE 2nd Ave
The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association presents the Caribbean culinary experience with a week of food and beverage competitions, Caribbean gastronomy, and cultural celebrations. Competition meals will be prepared by culinary teams from Anguilla, Bahamas, Barbados, Bonaire, Curacao, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The weeklong event includes the Taste of the Islands festival, Caribbean Culinary Team Lunch Challenge, and the Awards Ceremony on June 10 as the finale.
Caribbean-American Gallery Exhibition
Friday, June 17, 7PM – Yardabraawd Gallery, 5401 NW 102nd Ave, Bay 137, Sunrise
The Caribbean Bar Association hosts an opening cocktail reception for the newest art gallery honoring Caribbean-American talent. The exhibition features art from Caribbean artists from Jamaica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Haiti. Local dignitaries representing various Caribbean nations will also be in attendance.
Colors of the Caribbean
Saturday, June 18 – Hollywood Arts Park, 1 North Young Circle, Hollywood
Colors of the Caribbean celebrates Caribbean American Heritage Month with music and flavors of the islands. Enjoy a taste of Caribbean culture with a festival celebration featuring live performances, Bahamian Junkanoo, a Steelband from Trinidad, Caribbean Food Village, arts & crafts, and a YMCA kids activity zone. Headlining the festival stage is Alison Hinds representing Barbados, T-Vice and Jahnesta representing Haiti, Red Rat representing Jamaica, Queen Omega representing Trinidad, and E.sy Kennenga representing Martinique. Other acts include local favorite Sizwe-C, and popular deejays Majestic and LLCoolBlaze. This year’s festival will be hosted by ABC’s Local 10 news anchor, Neki Mohan. Caribbean-American Heritage Month Celebration

The City of Miramar celebrates Caribbean-American Heritage month with a night of music, food, and arts and crafts.
