March 2013 Highlights


Miami International Film Festival
Mar. 1-10
Where: Various theatres throughout Miami

The annual film festival brings an international program of films from established and emerging filmmakers to various venues throughout Miami. The event features screenings, Q & A’s with filmmakers, opening night gala and awards ceremony.

Haring Miami
Mar. 6-10
Where: The Moore Building, 4040 NE Second Ave., Miami.

Celebrate the extraordinary contributions artist Keith Haring made to the art world at this exhibition that features one of the largest collections of works by the renowned graffiti artist.

Winter Party Festival
Mar. 6-11
Where: Various venues throughout Miami and Miami Beach.

Party with a purpose at this six-day festival with more than 20 events like cocktails, dance parties, pool parties and a huge beach party all to benefit the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and local Miami nonprofit organizations that serve the LGBT community.

WGC Cadillac Championship

Where: Doral Golf Resort & Spa, 4400 NW 87th Ave., Doral.

The top golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy and others face off at the Blue Monster course at the Doral Golf Resort as part of the PGA tour.

Calle Ocho
Mar. 10
Where: SW Eighth Street between 11-27th Avenues, Miami

Little Havana’s historic Calle Ocho is blocked off from 11th-27th Avenue, filling the city blocks with stages, international foods, sampling sites and entertainment for 1 million people to dance, eat and celebrate Hispanic traditions.

Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition

Where: Miami-Dade County Fair Grounds, 10901 SW 24 St., Miami

This annual event includes live entertainment, state-of-the-art rides, skill games, outrageous fair foods and livestock/agricultural competitions. The Fair showcases the artistic and academic talents of more than 45,000 students through competition and exhibition, with winnings totaling more than $475,000 annually in cash premiums, awards, trophies and plaques. The Fair is ranked the largest fair in Florida, attracting well over half a million visitors annually. This year’s entertainment line-up includes music by DJ Irie, Matt Hunter and performances by the Royal Hanneford Circus, the Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats and more.

Winter Music Conference

Winter Music Conference is a huge annual music gathering that brings together heavyweights from the electronic, house, techno and dance music industry as well as music industry delegates from around the world and thousands of fans for a concentrated schedule of more than 500 events, parties, seminars and workshops. Established in 1985, WMC is the largest music industry gathering of its kind in the world.

Ultra Music Festival
Mar. 15-17, 22-24
Where: Downtown Miami

Bayfront Park becomes the ultimate party spot each March for more than 40,000 electronic and dance music enthusiasts. Over 200 musicians and DJs perform during the three-day festival on various stages throughout the park – from mid-day and into the evening. Among the lineup for this year are such superstar names as Azealia Banks, Tiesto, Nervo, Steve Aoki and Cedric Gervais.

Jazz In the Gardens
Mar. 16-17
Where: Sun Life Stadium, 2269 Dan Marino Blvd, Miami Gardens

A weekend of some of the hottest R&B and jazz acts around, along with food from around the globe, arts & crafts, interactive stations and more. On the roster this year are Charlie Wilson, New Edition, Earth Wind & Fire, Najee, Rachelle Ferrell, Neyo, Monica, Mary Mary, plus more.

St. Patrick’s Day Weekend

Where: Various locations in Miami

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day all weekend throughout South Florida with venues taking advantage of the holiday falling on a Sunday to warm things up early. Fado takes over Mary Brickell Village with a huge St. Paddy’s Day street party on Sunday but starts the mayhem on Saturday with drink specials and entertainment. Brickell Irish Pub brings back its St. Patrick’s Day Fest for the fourth year with a two-day blow out party. John Martin’s parties down throughout the weekend with music, drinks, a pre-fixed dinner menu and bagpipes.

Sony Ericsson Open Tennis Tournament

Where: Crandon Park Tennis Center, 7300 Crandon Blvd, Key Biscayne

This men’s and women’s tennis tournament is unofficially considered the fifth grand slam among the pro ranks. The event attracts over 290,000 people and consistently showcases the best tennis players in the world – Victoria Azarenka, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal – with plenty of A-list celebrities in attendance.

Miami Beach International Fashion Week
Mar. 20-24
Where: Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach.

Miami Beach acts as a rendezvous point for fashion industry insiders from Europe and North and South America as it hosts the 15th annual Miami Beach International Fashion Week. The show has been a launch pad for successful designers like Colombia’s Esteban Cortazar and Silvia Tcherassi, Peru’s Sitka Semsch and Chile’s Ruben Campos.

Home Design and Remodeling Show

Miami Taste of Brickell Food & Wine Festival

A showcase of fine dining, wine and spirits plus live music, culinary demonstrations, exotic car show plus more. The event benefits the Boys & Girls club of Miami Dade.

Deering Estate Seafood Festival

Celebrate the ocean’s bounty at this celebration of food and music on Biscayne Bay with Florida’s freshest fish and seafood prepared by top local restaurants, celebrity chef cooking demos, the Bahamian Junkanoo, a Lil’ Shrimp Kids Zone, Deering Discovery Cove, an artist village and tours of the Deering Estate.
