O Miami Poetry Festival
Where: Various venues throughout Miami and Miami Beach
This biennial poetry festival celebrates National Poetry Month with a series of readings, workshops, performances and parties. Bestselling authors like Edwidge Danticat and Richard Blanco, who recently read at the Presidential Inauguration, are among the literary stars on the packed itinerary.
Florida Renaissance Festival
April 6-7, 13-14
Where: Cauley Square Historic Village, 22400 Old Dixie Hiwy., Goulds
Medieval mayhem makes its way to Miami-Dade in the form of the Florida Renaissance Festival. Cauley Square will be crawling with motleyed fools, armored knights, corseted queens plus games of skill for the festivalgoers like archery and tests of strength and giant turkey legs to chow on and plenty of mead, er, beer to wash it down.
Heineken Transatlantic Festival
Where: North Beach Bandshell, 7275 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; other venues
Emerging and international artists get some love from The Rhythm Foundation every year with their Transatlantic Festival, a showcase of up-and-coming musicians from around the globe. This year kicks off on April 4 with a performance at Blackbird Ordinary by neo-funk boogie band Psychic Mirrors and continues with Friday night’s headliners, electrotango outfit Bajofondo at the North Beach Bandshell where Saturday night techno-cumbia meets hip-hop with Colombian duo Bomba Estereo. Sunday night the fun ends at Gramps in Wynwood with a performance by Beat Machines.
Miami Riverday Festival
Where: Lummus Park Historic District, 250 NW North River Dr., Miami
Cruise down the Miami River at this annual celebration that takes place in Downtown Miami’s Lummus Park, the first park built in the City of Miami. The free festival features riverboat tours, a variety of live music, children activities, environmental education, historical re-enactors, art displays and more.
Nautica South Beach Triathlon
Where: Miami Beach, near 6th Street and Ocean Drive
This annual test of endurance gives regular fitness fans a chance to bike, swim and run next to celebrities, elite athletes, corporate teams through a beautiful course around Miami Beach. Bonus: The blood, sweat and tears will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Miami Beach Gay Pride
Where: Miami Beach, on Ocean Drive between 6th and 12th streets
The rainbow flags will be waving at the Miami Beach Gay Pride parade and festival, a celebration that brings together members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community along with their friends, allies and supporters. Singer Adam Lambert performs and Miami’s own shock jock Enrique Santos will preside as MC of the parade. After the flotilla of fun rolls down Ocean Drive, the festival commences on the sands of Miami Beach with booths, food, exhibits and fun.
Food & Garden Festival at Fairchild
Where: Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens, 10901 Old Cutler Road, Coral Gables
See what’s cooking at Fairchild during their annual celebration of local foods and the gorgeous gardens they grow in, then take home spectacular plants at their annual Spring Plant Sale.

The Miami Rum Renaissance Festival is a celebration of fine cane spirits featuring a full week of exclusive VIP parties, a two-day exhibition of the best rum brands, seminars, workshops and cocktail competitions.
South Beach Comedy Festival
Where: Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theatre, 1700 Washington Ave.; Colony Theatre, 1040 Lincoln Road; Lincoln Road free stage at Euclid and Lincoln Road
Miami Beach yuks it up every year when comedians converge for this annual festival that always locks down top comedic talent. This year’s headliners include SNL head writer and Weekend Update talking head Seth Meyers, funnywoman Sarah Silverman and Tracy Morgan. New this year is the festival’s first French language comedy night, a night with celebrated French actor and comedian Jamel Debbouze.

Eat like royalty at this four-day festival of food and wine events to benefit the United Way. This year’s itinerary includes an interactive dinner with celebrity Chef Daniel Boulud, a beer and food tasting at Wynwood Walls, a fine wine tasting at Merrick Park and a swank dinner with Italy’s chef David Brovelli. Tickets range from $45-$300.
Earth Day Trash Bash
Where: Palms Hotel & Spa, 3025 Collins Ave., Miami Beach
Do your part for Mother Earth at this beach clean-up that emcompasses the shoreline between 29th and 32nd Streets by Collins Avenue. Help residents and volunteers round up beach debris and celebrate your efforts with a few drinks at the happy hour following the clean-up.
Miami Beach Polo World Cup
Where: On Miami Beach, between 20th and 22nd Streets
The sport of kings comes galloping back to Miami Beach at this annual tournament that draws thousands of spectators for four days of polo matches with VIP lounges, cocktails, after parties and platinum style partying.
Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival
April 26 – May 5
Where: Various venues around Miami
The 15th annual, 10-day festival showcases over 65 films at six venues in the Miami area. From documentaries to shorts, the films vary in topic but all touch on the experience of gays and lesbians in their own way.
