The veteran Miami Fashion Week event, this season marks Miami Beach International Fashion Week’s 13th year in existence. Beginning March 21 to the 24 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, President of Sobol Fashion Productions Beth Sobol spearheads the production which is touted as the largest International and Hispanic fashion event in the U.S. We chitchat with Sobol on what’s new this year and more.
How is this year’s Miami Beach International Fashion Week different from years past? MBIFW continues to grow with increased educational and mentoring programs, media attendance, and overall business support reaching designers in every corner of the globe.
Which designers have launched their careers from this particular event? Silvia Tcherassi was a very young designer in Barranquilla, Colombia when we found her and is now a well known designer in the U.S. and abroad, we also launched Hernan Zajar from Colombia, Sitka Semsch from Peru and Ruben Campos from Chile internationally and discovered Esteban Cortázar when he was only 14. Our next protégé is 12-year-old Christopher Abella from Miami. He is agoing to be a star!
Why is Miami Beach International Fashion Week so important for our local, emerging designers? This event provides an international platform that they otherwise would not have. MBIFW brings together the world’s top fashion press and showcases the best emerging designers both locally and internationally who come to Miami to be part of this event. When a designer wins an award at MBIFW, their lives and careers change with many new doors opening and they go home stars!
Describe Miami Beach International Fashion Week for those not-in-the-know: MBIFW is the largest Latin American and International designer event in the US featuring the best emerging designers from around the world. We travel extensively, working with other fashion weeks as their invited guests to review their designers for consideration to participate in MBIFW. Upcoming invitations include Pattaya International Fashion Week in Thailand and Fashion Pakistan in Karachi. We will travel as their VIP guests to view their shows and choose a winning designer from each market to participate in MBIFW 2013.
Who are this year’s designers to watch? All of them! We have some spectacular designers coming from everywhere including the Kingdom of Bahrain, Greece, Italy, Australia, India, throughout South America, the US and more!
This year you are showcasing over 50 designers from 20 countries, what can revelers expect? We are up to 55 designers and you are guaranteed to witness some of the most creative and exciting talent from around the world all coming to Miami to show their latest collection.
