Love Life and the 411: Scandal watch party Thursday, plenty of Flow on Friday

“Forty is the old age of youth; fifty the youth of old age.” – Victor Hugo

This one’s for the Grown Folks…
I don’t know when nightlife became so immature and overrun with women wearing rainbow hair in dental floss dresses and men with their pants on the ground. But the day it happened some DJ decided the only way to stop the onslaught was to declare “This is for The GROWN FOLKS”. (Which is not necessarily an age, more of an attitude.) Grown folks don’t “turn up, show out  nor do they make it rain with their mortgage money.” They dress appropriately, usually know when to stop drinking and know all the words to every Frankie Beverly and Maze song. Sound familiar? Then this one’s for you…

It’s been a long week and the last thing you want is loud music and obnoxious people. That’s exactly why Ingrid B created this intimate dinner party, so you can flow right into your weekend with ease. This week Hidden Beach recording artist Mike Phillis is on the sax and on stage. Phillips is one of the hottest, the party continues well into the morning, and will likely end at the Waffle House.
Friday, Feb. 28,  8 p.m. – midnight. Tickets $15. Piano, 5805 Seminole Way, Hard Rock Casino. Web:

We might have the shortest month to pay homage to the contributions of African-Americans. But grown folks know to make the most of every day. The City of Hallandale will close Black History Month with 4th Fridays at Foster Park Community Center.  Live music, foods of the diaspora and lots to do for the entire family. Live musical performances by Sons of Mystro, Adore, Giel, Wanda “Star” Williams and the Starlettes and La Vie.
6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Free admission. 609 NW 6th Ave., Hallandale Beach. For more information, call (954) 457-1452 or visit or

Cooking, Cocktails…and Scandal!
Grown folks also know that all group activities must include copious amounts of food and wine. And the return of the overwhelmingly addictive ABC drama ‘Scandal’ demands both. Gladiators – as fans of the show are called – don’t miss Scandal in the Mix. Thursday night (Feb. 27) six culinary teams will compete to create the most sinful ‘Scandal’ themed cocktails and amuse bouche like Berry Ciroc Deep Fried Oreos from TYTY’s Kitchen for guests to sip and nibble while they enjoy a live painting by DWats. Tracie Marie (@abittabling) will be on hand creating rhinestone Scandalous T’s  and of course watching Scandal. Celebrity chef Keith Reed will be on hand, too, and promises no long lines for his world famous pineapple stuffed conch salad.
Cooking, Cocktails & Scandal, 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. Tickets $20 or $50 VIP. 1st Klass Café, 9940 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines. Click here for tickets
