Get your swap on at annual Swingfest convention

Ever licked fudge drizzle off a basic stranger? Want to? Swingfest, the annual convention for the swinging lifestyle, will take over the Downtown Miami Hilton next weekend, with a packed four-day schedule featuring play rooms, parties, an adult expo and educational seminars.

Always room for more

Attendees are invited to come live out fantasies in themed meet-up rooms like the Kinky Room, Chocolate Room, and instantly gratifying Booty Call Room. Each features plenty of salacious props to help the fun along.

“The play rooms were the most popular thing about last year’s convention,” says Jason Jean, CEO of Swingfest Events, the company that produces Swingfest and other ventures. Last year’s Swingfest in Hollywood, Florida was the first ever of its type, and nearly 12,000 attendees stayed for the weekend or indulged in a day pass. The success surprised even Jean, an enthusiast of the lifestyle for 15 years (he and wife Russy have been married for 17). “There are so many different numbers about how many millions of swingers are out there. Some say 50 million, some say 3 million. We didn’t know what to expect,” says Jean. He attributes the success to strong grassroots marketing within online swinging communities, as well as promotional collaboration with other companies in the lifestyle.

Post-it your parts and go

The centerpiece events at Swingfest are the Friday and Saturday blowout parties, and conveniently, you’ll only need an outfit for one of them. The Friday night ABC Party (Anything But Clothes) encourages nudity, but attendees can literally wear anything but clothes (cellophane, body paint, and Post-its are just a few suggestions). Saturday’s Exotic Erotic Halloween Ball requires a tad more clothing in the form of barely-there costumes, amidst cage dancers, stripper poles and VIP beds.

Besides the swapping, fantasy fulfillment, and nudity, Swingfest does have some of the regular features of a typical convention, though with a prurient twist. The adult expo will take over 45,000 square feet of floor space, featuring exhibitors who deal in the adult lifestyle: toys, lingerie, swinger clubs, hedonistic vacation companies and others. Educational seminars are also offered on topics including safe sex within the lifestyle, how to host swing parties and “Swinging 101”, a seminar for novice swingers hosted by Jean and his wife.

Pass to play

Swingfesters come from all over the world—last year’s convention had visitors from South Africa, the Netherlands and other countries, as well as out-of-staters from as far as California and Oregon. But the locals turned out as well. Jean estimates about 60% of attendees were from right here in South Florida. “We would have never expected that many , but we’ve found that South Floridians are very open-minded. We had a lot of local walk-ins and single day passes,” Jean says.

Weekend-long passes and room packages are still available; locals may want to opt for a $199 couples’ day pass. “Considering that you get to enjoy both the full day and night of events, and knowing how much it can cost to go out in Miami, $199 is pretty economical,” Jean says. Want to know more about the lifestyle, but still hesitant? Jean recommends starting out with a $20 pass that will get you into the expo and educational seminars.

The deal with dudes

Couples and single females are greatly encouraged; single guys have more stringent standards. Not only do single male passes cost more, but every single male goes through a pre-screening process before being permitted. Unattached men must already be part of an online swinging community, have couples that vouch for them, and go through a personal interview with Jean. “We don’t allow them to just roll in, ready to party. They have to understand the ethics of the swinging community,” Jean says.
