June signals the beginning of summer and the official month of Gay Pride throughout the U.S.
In Florida, one of the most popular events celebrating Pride is Orlando’s Gay Days which starts today, Tuesday June 1 and goes through Monday June 7.
Gay Days is comprised of multiple events staged at gay & lesbian clubs, and unique venues secured for the purpose of creating a gay and lesbian atmosphere at Orlando’s theme parks and at multiple parties that occur throughout the weekend. The crowd attending Gay Days each year is a mix of young, old, all races, parents, gay AA groups, and every other section of our community.
Gay Days began in 1991 as a single designated day (always the first Saturday in June) when the LesBiGay community and friends were encouraged to “Wear Red and Be Seen” while visiting the world’s most popular theme park. From it’s beginnings with 3,000 attendees, this one-day park visit has evolved into a week long, citywide celebration offering round the clock activities including multiple theme park visits, cocktail soirees, concerts, and a host of internationally renowned parties. Gay Days attracts over 135,000 celebrants from across the nation and around the globe.

There are also unofficial events going on during Gay Days such as the popular Friday, June 4 party at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon called Lets Go Play. Men and women attend this party clad in swimsuits ready to dance and play the night away. The party starts at 8:00 p.m. and ends at 2:00 am.
