Free and cheap things to do in Miami – Oct. 9-11

The Miami Book Fair International isn’t until November but the poster will be unveiled at a party Saturday afternoon in Wynwood, in advance of the monthly art walk. Or you can kick off the weekend on Calle Ocho on Friday night during the Little Havana Art Walk.

On Saturday, spend time with the family while enjoying culture and interactive fun at History Miami, Perez Art Museum Miami or the Coral Gables Museum, all of which have free family days. Saturday night, the New World Symphony kicks off its season and you can watch for free on the Wallcast outdoors.

Colorful Wynwood mural for this year’s poster

The Miami Book Fair International is hosting a poster unveiling party at a designated Wynwood Wall Saturday at 4 p.m. Street artist Diana “Didi” Contreras unveils her “Three Muses” mural at the corner of Northwest 25th Street and Second Avenue. The piece will be photographed by Miami Herald photographer Carl Juste and be featured on this year’s official poster. Enjoy Jugofresh cold-press juices and light bites during the event. Admission is free.

Art on Calle Ocho

The colorful artworks, both in galleries and on walls along Calle Ocho, are the highlight of the Friday night Little Havana Art Walk from 7-11 p.m. Pop in and out of galleries between 14th and 17th avenues and see paintings, sculptures, mixed media and contemporary pieces. The Futurama Building on 16th Avenue features works by several artists under one roof.
