Indoor putting practice
Spend Saturday afternoon practicing your putting with golf pro Tracy Kerdyk who is hosting free putting lessons during the Family Day on Aragon Saturday at the Coral Gables Museum. There’s free admission to the museum from 2-5 p.m. and other golf-themed activities, a scavenger hunt and a performance by the Miami Royal Ballet. Get to the Gables early and catch a screening of the Japanese animated films Ponyo and Totoro at 11 a.m. for $5 at the Gables Art Cinema, with free popcorn and soda for kids under 12.
Second Saturday means it’sWynwood Art Walk
The Wynwood Art Walk trudges on even in the summer this Saturday and the neighborhood welcomes the throngs of art lovers from 6-10 p.m. Many of the galleries stay open later to keep the night owls happy. The art walk is a great opportunity to watch street artists create live art, listen to musicians performing on street corners and sip brews at one of the many breweries in the area. Food trucks are always in the Mana Village and there’s always something funky going on at Wynwood Walls.
Make a day of it with free admission to PAMM
Miami’s world-class Perez Art Museum Miami generously opens its doors for free on the second Saturday of the month, allowing Miamians to take in the vast expanse of art exhibitions along with killer waterfront view, funky shop and first-rate restaurant. The striking hanging gardens that are the museum’s signature outdoor feature are the inspiration for the Saturday workshop “Natural Designs with The Sketchbook Project.” Spend the rest of the day perusing the 12 exhibitions, permanent and traveling, currently on display. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sweet potato blues in Pompano
Thanksgiving may be several months away but it’s never too early for sweet potato pie so head to Apollo Park in Pompano Beach on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the free Juneteenth Blues and Sweet Potato Pie Festival. The historic celebration features a step-dance show by the FAU (Florida Atlantic University) Steppers, performance by the Valor Dance Group and live music by the Joey Gilmore’s Blues Band and singer Lil Mini Woodson. There’s also a sweet potato pie bake-off, relay races and other activities.
