Whether you like your music classical in a swanky boutique hotel or with a bit more edge in a record store, there are choices for you this weekend. On Sunday you can eat tacos and other fare at a lazy brunch barbecue. Fashionistas will want to take note of what’s happening at the Deauville Beach Resort on Saturday.
Aside from all this, you can enjoy Deering Estate for free on Sunday, a free reggae and funk concert on Sunny Isles Beach at Sole on the Ocean on Saturday or take the kids to the MDC Museum of Art + Design in the Freedom Tower Saturday for the free GO GO MOA+D event.
Latest from local & Jersey bands at Sweat Records
Sweat Records is a fixture in the Little Haiti neighborhood, where the vinyl-obsessed go to get their album fix from an enviable selection of records. Also, like Churchill’s next door, Sweat presents plenty of live music acts. On Saturday from 7-9 p.m. local band Mr. Entertainment and The Pookiesmackers plays music from its latest 12-inch, and New Jersey’s Rock ‘n Roll Hi-Fives perform tunes from their latest EP. The concert is free but RSVP is required.
Magic city vintage fashion frenzy
Paying homage to the fashion trends of the 1950s and 1960s the Deauville Beach Resort, itself a throwback to another time, is the host for Frenzy in the Magic City on Saturday from 4-9 p.m. Showcased will be photos by Rod Deal depicting vintage fashions from the 1950s to the 1990s, as well as a pop-up shop by Pink Wasabi boutique. Dopedoll Radio, Mr. Jolt and The Hongs will perform. The resort will serve up vintage light bites and cocktails from 4-7 p.m. Event is free but RSVP is required.
Lazy Sunday barbecue brunch
The monthly Lazy Brunch BBQ at the A+E District is becoming quite popular. It’s an event not to be missed, especially since Wynwood’s Coyo Taco will be there selling authentic Mexican tacos and Airstream Apothecary will sell Beck’s Beer and Deep Eddy vodka cocktails. Mad Chiller will provide free desserts, including gelato and fresh-brewed iced coffee. Head there between 2 and 6 p.m. RSVP required.
Chamber music at boutique SoBe hotel
The Betsy Hotel on Ocean Drive continues to offer free cultural events, including a month-long Chamber music series. Michael Klotz, a professor at Florida International University, will lead the Chamber Music II concert on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 8 p.m. Sherrill Milnes leads a master class and performs in the B Bar. Both events are free.
Learn about bending glass from the masters
The Hollywood ArtsPark at Young Circle is always a hot spot for weekend events and one recurring fun free event is the free glass-blowing demonstration. Watch masters at their craft work their magic with fiery hot glass and create beautiful works of art. It’s a great way to pick up a new hobby. The glass blowers are there Fridays and Saturdays from 7-10 p.m.
