This weekend’s events in Miami prove there’s something for all types of cheapskates, including the southern rock fan, German-beer drinker, Italian-music lover, LGBT film enthusiast, Halloween adrenaline junkie and more. Enjoy:
Molly Hatchet concert
If you like southern rock, you won’t want to miss this concert starring Molly Hatchet and others, and presented by Jack Daniels. The South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center is hosting a Backyard Bash on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at its back yard concert lawn and plaza. The bash is the annual kick-off celebration for the center’s season.
At the bash, enjoy the classic southern rock sounds of Molly Hatchet, 18 Wheelers and other local South Florida bands. Enter to win a free guitar at the Jack Daniels tent. Get $5 tickets from Culture Shock Miami: Students qualify for two $5 tickets. The link is on our website. Any additional ticket costs $15 or $25 the day of the show. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, but leave the coolers at home.
The Oktoberfest parties continue in Miami. On Oct. 14-16 and Oct. 21-23, the original and longest-running Oktoberfest in Florida celebrates its 59th year at The German American Social Club in West Kendall. Get your oompah on and drink a stein full of beer. Tickets are $10 for ages 21 and over, $5 for ages 6-20, free for under 6 years old. Active and retired military are free every day with ID. Police, Fire, and Miami-Dade County employees are free on Sundays with ID.
If Italian music is your preference, enjoy a free evening on of Italian music, food, culture and fun at a concert featuring Italian artist Max Gazze and an opening set by Italian electronic artist Aine. It happens on the evening of Oct. 14 at the North Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach.
Festival season in South Florida has begun and we’ve rounded up some deals for upcoming festivals. Get up to 61 percent off the Coconut Grove Seafood Festival happening Oct. 16 and up to 54 percent off the MiFo LGBT Film Festival happening now through Oct. 16 in Fort Lauderdale. There are others listed and we update it as we find deals. Some sell out quickly, but hopefully you can catch a good deal for a festival that interests you.
House of Horrors
It’s not yet Halloween but House of Horrors at Miami International Mall has already begun scaring victims and will continue to do so now through Oct. 31. They have a plethora of ways to give heart attacks with things like a freak gallery, horror movie showings, an asylum overrun by ghosts of former mental patients, gates of phobia, carnival rides and more. Why is it that the car never starts and the cellphone never works when you’re trying to get away? Anyway, the best part is that we found a deal that cuts the admission fee in half (to $15) for a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. We also list all the other free or cheap Halloween events coming up so you can be ready for the creepy.
