This weekend’s free and cheap events include back-to-school freebies, free bowling, a free art walk and free museum family fun. Check it out:

School bash

The month of August means back-to-school preparations are underway with sponsored events that distribute free school supplies. The Orange Bowl Family Fun & Fit Day on Aug. 13 at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex in North Dade will host more than 60 vendors, who will provide a variety of services and products including free health screenings, fitness classes, interactive demonstrations and essentials for children heading back to school. There will be free haircuts, free backpacks with school supplies, free health screenings and more. For those who live in the south end of the county, another back-to-school bash is scheduled at Palmetto Bay Park also on Aug. 13.

When was the last time you went bowling? Bowl for free on the morning of National Bowling Day, Aug. 13, and return for a party at Strike Miami bowling in Dolphin Mall. This year, they are having the Million Pin Challenge. Help them knock down one million pins and they’ll donate 500,000 meals to Feed America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

The organizers of Cultural Fridays have organized a monthly Little Havana Art Walk that runs along Calle Ocho (Southwest Eighth Street) in the heart of Little Havana between 12th and 17th avenues on the second Friday of every month. Galleries are open 7-11 p.m. including galleries in the Futurama Building, for an opportunity to see paintings, photography, sculpture, mixed media and contemporary pieces.

HistoryMiami museum opens its door for free admission the second Saturday of every month and hosts Family Fun Day.  The Aug. 13 theme is “Connecting with Nature,” and kids can enjoy fun activities about summer and the great outdoors.
