Want to know how hugely popular Drake is? The last artist to quickly sell out the James L. Knight Center and announce a second show was Lady Gaga, back in January.
Now, the Toronto-based rapper and singer has been forced to do the same. A second Miami performance of The Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour will take place September 20, the day before the now sold out first show. These two shows will be the first of the tour.
Once upon a time, Aubrey Drake Graham was best known as Jimmy Brooks in Degrassi: The Next Generation, a teenage soap opera that aired on Nickelodeon’s spin-off channel, The-N. Nowadays, he only goes by his middle name, and his solo debut album, Thank Me Later, debuted at No. 1 with more than 400,000 records sold in the first week alone.
Best known for his hits “Over,” “Forver,” and “Best I Ever Had,” he also forms part of the Young Money collective, which includes Lil’ Wayne and Nicki Minaj.
Drake has performed at various club appearances and on Lil Wayne’s recent arena tours when they visited South Florida, but these two shows will be his first in Miami with his touring band.
He won’t be alone on the tour, though: Scheduled opening acts include Virginia hip-hip duo Clipse, and UGK rapper Bun B, who released his third solo album, Trill O.G., in August.
Tickets for the September 20 show are on sale at Ticketmaster. Prices range from $39.75 to $79.75 before service charges.
