Bill’s Filing Station (or just Bill’s like the locals call it) is a place where you find no attitude and just friendly faces, the polar opposite of what you could encounter on South Beach.
The men skew on the older side and some classify as bears. (Bears of all kinds, even muscle bears). Young and old, bear and non-bear, hang out and groove to music that is usually accompanied by a video. Yep, it’s a video bar Fridays through Mondays.
Bill’s motif is fashioned like an old garage gasoline station (hence the Filling Station part). The drinks are cheap – think $4 Blue Long Island Ice Teas served in old fashion jars. Old school drinks at old school prices.
The crowd gets going early and usually thins out after midnight. Fridays are the best night. Doors open at 2 p.m., so make sure to get there early for 2-for-1 drinks available until 9 p.m.
Stick around for the “Sexy Man Contest” at midnight. Now sexy is defined in different ways at Bill’s. Sometimes it’s a best buns contest, other times as best hairy chest. Watch out for the drag queen host that recruits and hauls men up on stage to be judged by the fun loving crowd. (Everybody gets a good round of applause, even if it’s not well deserved.) The winner takes home $100.
“Midnight Madness” is what Bill’s call it’s late night happy hour with 2-for-1 drinks from midnight to 2 a.m.
Sometimes it’s hit or miss at Bill’s – it all depends on the crowd. The sure bets are the cheap drinks (look for their daily drink specials) and their no attitude vibe.
