Bal Harbour Shops Hosts Film Festival for Fashion Lovers

Sundance, shmundance. If you missed last weekend’s Sundance Film Festival, you’re lucky to be in Miami — ditch the long face and put on your best movie-going attire. Bal Harbour Shops will be hosting a four-day film foray of its own from Jan. 28 to 31, 2016.

The swanky shopping mall commissioned Fashion in Film, an internationally acclaimed London-based project, to curate the festival, Wearing Time: Returns, Recalls, Renewal. Bal Harbour Shops’ Fashion Project, the chic cultural initiative founded by Cathy Leff early last year, will showcase the films in its third level space. The festival marks the conclusion of Fashion Project’s fall/winter programming, celebrating the past 100 years in fashion and the 50th anniversary of Bal Harbour Shops.

“In film, not only can dress become a vehicle with which to travel through time, is can also measure time, set its rhythm. It allows us to wear time, even as time wears us out,” says co-curators Marketa Uhlirova, co-founder of Fashion in Film, and Tom Gunning, University of Chicago’s Department of Film and Media Studies professor. Uhlirova and Gunning will be sharing how film and fashion intersect in a series of talks to accompany the screenings.

While Wearing Time: Returns, Recalls, Renewal is complimentary and open to the public, RSVPs are required. Contact info@fashionprojectbhs.com or (786) 245-2200 to reserve your spot.
