Art, music, booze, cartoons & sado masochism! It's not Art Basel anymore, it's just good ol' Miami

Taking Stock

So now that the locals have taken back their city — sort of — from the brigade of Baselites who stormed down here last week, it’s time to embrace the assets and take advantage before the second wave of invaders heads down for the holidays. Among those assets, Key Biscayne’s Virginia Beach, which is the scenic spot for the 3rd Annual Woodystock Benefit Festival, starting at 2 p.m. Saturday. In addition to a food village and art (yep, we still have art!), there will be live performances by The Expendables, Cris Cab, Maxi Priest, Bachaco and Future Prezidents. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $80 for VIP. Proceeds will benefit The Woody Foundation, which helps those with paralysis. To buy your tickets, go to www.woodystockmiami.org.

All Jacked Up

Leave it to Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey to wait for Art Basel to be over to throw its own homage to art with an event, Art, Beats and Lyrics, taking place at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Miami Backlot Studios, 342 NW 24th St., and featuring some of today’s best up-and-coming artists and seasoned vets including Dubelyoo, Kazilla and Diana Contreras. The event will also feature appearances from a hip-hop star whose name has yet to be announced. The event is open to the public. Details are available at www.jackhoneyabl.com.

Pieces of Work

Miami absolutely has its fair share of comic book characters, but none as real as those in “The Adventures of Bibi & Friends,” a South Beach staple since before the Kardashian and Jenner girls were even born. In celebration of the book’s Miami Beach Centennial edition, author/artist Bibi Andrade is throwing a Paint Your Comic Character Party from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Painting With A Twist, 924 71st St., Miami Beach. The $45 cost includes a 16 x 20 canvas and an autographed comic book. If you’re not in the book, fret not. You can paint your favorite Miami cartoon, be it a nightlife personality or a politician. Tempting, we know. Space is limited to 40, but if you’re not painting, you can come and cocktail it up while critiquing the others’ pieces of work, on canvas or otherwise. To reserve your spot, call 786-352-8511 or go to www.paintingwithatwist.com.

Hit-tilating

Giving the term whipped butter a completely different meaning is Tantalize Miami’s “Fifty Shades of Grey” dinner party from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday, where superstar chef Horacio Rivadero will create a menu to go with six choreographed costumed stage shows “to indulge the senses.” The first show at Tantalize, 320 Lincoln Road, starts at 8:30 p.m., but you can eat before. We suggest waiting at least 30 minutes before doing anything else, if you know what we mean — cough. For reservations, call 305-695-1401 or go to www.opentable.com/tantalize.
