'Annie' touring company hits South Florida with a local talent in starring role

Under the direction of Martin Charnin, original lyricist and director of the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit, this new production of the beloved musical with unforgettable songs like “It’s a Hard Knock Life” and “Tomorrow” returns with 9-year-old Issie Swickle of Davie in the starring role along with Gilgamesh Taggett as Oliver Warbucks, Lynn Andrews as Miss Hannigan, Ashley Edler as Grace, Garret Deagon as Rooster, Lucy Werner as Lily and Allan Ray Baker as FDR. In the role of Annie’s furry friend Sandy is Sunny, a 4-year-old rescue terrier mix.

Shows are 8p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Saturday, 1p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday through Oct.19. Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Au-Rene Theater (201 SW Fifth Avenue, Fort Lauderdale). Tickets start at $34.75 at www.browardcenter.org or 800-745-3000.
