AIRIE in the Garden supports 'Wild Billboards'

Nature lovers can roam through the 14-acre botanical garden in Pinecrest Gardens this Saturday afternoon to support Artists in Residence in Everglades, a 14-year-old program bringing artists, writers, composers and choreographers to Everglades National Park for residencies in the country’s only subtropical wilderness.

The “AIRIE in the Garden” event is for the organization’s newest initiative to transform urban billboards into canvases, or “Wild Billboards,” in hopes of inspiring the public to renew its dedication to the Everglades.

Guests will go in search of site-specific installations by artists such as Jason Hedges, Regina Jestrow, Elite Kedan, Christina Pettersson, Caterina Tiazzoldi, and Reed Van Brunschot. Ana Mendez will perform “Rebecca,” a 10-minute dance, and writers Bill Maxwell, Anne McCrary Sullivan, and Nathaniel Sandler will share readings of their work. “FLOW: BIG WATERS,” a 10-minute video loop by Valerie Leblanc and Daniel Dugas, will also be on view.

Tickets start at $60 and include an “artistic twist on culinary refreshments” and a membership to AIRIE. Proceeds from the event will be matched by the Knight Foundation.
