Accessible Art: Nari Ward retrospective opens at PAMM and The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood unveils five new exhibits

Nari Ward Retrospective Opens

Award-winning artist Nari Ward unveils the largest survey of his career in “Sun Splashed” at Pérez Art Museum Miami, 1103 Biscayne Blvd., with an opening celebration on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 6 – 10 p.m. during PAMM’s Third Thursday event, which features a live performance by Stone Love from Jamaica. Ward’s retrospective was curated by Diana Nawi and features mixed-media collages, photography, assemblage, sculpture, interactive works, video, and architectural installations that serve to explore American history and culture, power and politics, and Caribbean diaspora identity. PAMM members receive early access from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Thursday and free entry to the evening party. Tickets are $16 and pre-purchase is recommended. On Saturday, Nov. 21, Ward and Nawi will deliver a performative talk at 2 p.m. Free with museum admission. Sun Splashed is on view through Feb. 21. For more information, visit pamm.org.

Design District’s Performance Series Finale

The Miami Design District’s Site-Specific Performance Series finale is Saturday, Nov. 21, starting at 6 p.m. The events are free and open to the public, and include contemporary dance, performance art, theater, as well as an adaption to artist Paula Crown’s “Transposition: Over Many Miles” installation. At 7:30 p.m., Crown will transform her existing installation with 300 pounds of fall leaves and a performance by Alma Dance Theater. Nina Surel and more

The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood is showcasing the work of five contemporary artists, including Nina Surel, Sailing to Byzantine; Santiago Rubino, Light Out of Darkness; Oliver Wasow, Studio Portraits; Gustavo Oviedo, The New Past; and Michael Namkung, Levitation and Gravitas. The current exhibitions will be on view through Jan. 24 at 1650 Harrison St., Hollywood. The gallery is open Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from noon to 4 p.m. Closed Monday. Forms of Stillness

Currently on view at the Canale Diaz Art Center is “Forms of Stillness,” an exhibition of Cuban artist Heriberto Mora’s latest paintings and sculptures.
