If you have been waiting for a special occasion to visit your favorite restaurant, now is the time to find something to celebrate. The popular Miami Spice restaurant event, which features discounts to top restaurants, runs now through Sept. 30 with more than 240 participating restaurants for 2016. During this event, restaurants will offer discounted three-course, prix-fixe lunch and dinner menus featuring a choice of an appetizer, entrée and dessert. Restaurants will offer lunches at $23 per person and dinners at $39. For a foodie like myself, it’s a great way to drag the partner to try an unknown fine-dining restaurant.
For a bit of savings on apparel, footwear and school supplies, Florida offers a tax-free shopping weekend in which eligible items are exempt from the usual six percent sales tax. The tax-free weekend is Aug. 5-7, and sales tax is waived on items that could be used by students. Some malls will hold special events, such as a fashion show at Miami International Mall and a kid’s event at The Falls. So, parents and fellow cheapskates, I’ll see you at the mall this weekend for back-to-school shopping.
Every first Friday of the month, the City of Miami Beach offers “First Fridays / Friday Night Live,” a series of free concerts in the north end. On Aug. 5, the soulful tones of the LeNard Rutledge Jazz Ensemble will be featured. Food and beverages from neighborhood businesses will be for sale. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Gather around with neighbors and friends as you listen to great tunes, take a walk around the square and check out the great restaurants that North Beach has to offer.
Several museums offer free admission this Saturday, including Gold Coast Railroad Museum in South Dade and The Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU in Miami Beach. Also, Bank of America cardholders can get into a list of museums in Miami for free this Saturday. In addition, military families can get free admission to more museums in Miami and across the country now through Labor Day under the Blue Star Museums program.
