This weekend brings numerous things to do in Miami with the onset of Valentine’s Day, Presidents’ Day and the Chinese New Year. Here are some of the highlights:
Valentine’s Day celebrations
There are numerous Valentine’s Day celebrations going on throughout the weekend and numerous ways to celebrate love from Noches Tropicales featuring a Latin jazz concert at Tropical Park on Friday night, to the Love Shack party on Saturday night in Miami Beach, to the 24th Annual Kite Day Festival in Haulover Park on Sunday, and many more. Check out our list of free and cheap events for the love holiday.
Chinese New Year celebrations
The Year of the Monkey began on Feb. 8 and festivities will be ongoing throughout the month, especially this weekend. Miami-Dade College is ground zero for local Chinese New Year celebrations. Check out the list of events celebrating the Chinese New Year at various MDC campuses and various dates, especially the one on Feb. 14 in the Kendall campus which costs $10.
There are numerous events for families this Saturday ranging from watching movies at Family Day on Aragon in Coral Gables to learning about history at Family Fun Day in the HistoryMiami museum to watching ballet at Family Fest at the Adrienne Arsht Center (both in Downtown) to having an outdoor adventure at Family Fun Fest in Biscayne National Park in South Dade on Sunday. It’s a nice way to teach your kid about a variety of subjects and participate in new experiences.
If the Coconut Grove Arts Festival is out of your price range, check out the “art show within the art show.” For $2, get in to the St. Stephen’s Art Show right there in Coconut Grove this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. What began as a hot dog stand about 27 years ago has now grown into its own art show.
We’ve got you covered on getting a discount to get in to the Renaissance Festival in Deerfield Beach, which begins this Saturday and runs the weekends through March. The festival is open on Presidents’ Day if you are on holiday and looking for something to do. Expect to see Renaissance-costumed characters and performers.
