7 Ways to Eat Your Way To A Sexy Body

Can you feel the heat, Miami? No, we’re not talking about our celebrated NBA team. We’re referring to the actual Sahara-like temps as of late. With this said, it’s time to hit the sizzling sands of SoBe — which means whipping that body into shape for both you gals and gents. We chat up Tovita Nutrition’s registered dietitians Leah Silberman and Molly Rieger on how to eat our way to a fit and healthy physique. For those of you not in the know, Tovita is a virtual nutrition counseling and concierge service. So without further ado, read on for 7 tips on scoring a beach bod:

1. Salt…It’s No Bueno

Sorry, salt: Ditch the saltshaker and processed foods a few days before getting in that swimsuit. Salt causes your body to retain water and may add those unwanted pounds of water weight. If you eat a salty meal, make sure to drink enough water to help flush it out.

2. Go B-A-N-A-N-A-S

Like, literally. Pile on the potassium. Potassium is a natural diuretic, which helps to relieve that feeling of puffiness and bloat. Where to get potassium? Add a banana to your morning smoothie, throw a piece of citrus fruit in your beach bag, or add avocado to your breakfast.

3. Thirsty? Drink H20

Cut the carbonation: The bubbles in soda water cause bloating that no one needs while wearing a bathing suit! So stick to good old H2O before your bikini debut. If that bores you, try adding sliced cucumber, fresh fruit, or lavender to jazz it up a bit.

4. Hit The Gym…Duh

If it’s beach day, getting a good sweat will definitely boost your confidence before slipping on that bikini. Go for a at least a 30 minute run using intervals (jog, run, sprint, jog, run sprint) and end with some quick crunches and push ups to help enhance your muscle tone.

5. Eat Your Way To Hydration

If it’s been awhile since you last hit the beach, increase your raw fruit and vegetable intake. Fruits and veggies are naturally high in water and fiber, meaning they help to keep you hydrated and regular. These are the foods you probably crave on the beach anyway: watermelon, berries, cucumbers, peppers and celery.

6. No More Wine Time:(

Sober up. Sorry for the buzz kill, but limiting your alcohol intake is major in getting beach ready. If cutting alcohol out completely isn’t an option, at least avoid the sugary mixers and sodas and stick to white wine or clear liquors with club soda and lime. Also remember to hydrate between and after drinks to avoid the dreaded puffiness and bloat.

7. Beware of Air Expanders (Yeah, That’s a Thing)

There are a few habits that actually increase the amount of air you swallow, causing that unfortunate Buddha belly look. Chewing gum, eating too fast and drinking through a straw are all offenders.
