7 Fun Things To Do During Spring Break for Teens (and Adults of Any Age)

Miami-Dade County Public School students are off this week (March 21 – 25) for Spring Break. That means lots of teenagers with plenty of free time on their hands. For those that prefer to spend their days making memories rather than sleeping the day away, spending countless hours on social media or playing video games, we’ve got a seven fun ways to spend Spring Break:

K1 Speed
If you feel the need for speed, don a helmet and get behind the wheel of a go-kart at K1 Speed. The indoor racing track is a great place to go with a group of friends and race toward the checkered flag. The electric-powered go-karts reach speeds of up to 45 mph on a smooth track that features hairpin curves and straightaways. Grab a bite or shoot some pool, too. There are locations in Medley and for those in North Dade, there’s a Hollywood location too.

Sky Zone Trampoline Park
Have childhood memories of afternoons spent jumping and frolicking on a backyard trampoline? You can re-live those days but with lots more jumping and maneuvers at Sky Zone Trampoline Park in Doral. At the indoor fun spot which bills itself as “the ultimate 3-D experience,” you can participate in the OpenJump, dunk like the NBA pros in SkySlam, jump into a pit filled with 15,000 foam cubes in Foam Zone or get in a workout in the SkyRobics fitness class. No matter what your preference, you’ll be jumping for joy!

Star Stables Miami
Instead of hitting the beach all Spring Break, saddle up at Star Stables Miami for a horseback riding lesson. The professional equestrian center is located on a 10-acre farm in the Miami-Dade area known as “horse country.” During the 45-minute lesson, professional trainers begin with a warm up for you and the horse focusing on proper posture on the saddle, helping you gain confidence and most importantly stressing safety tips. You then move on to the riding lessons. In-hand lessons where the trainer controls the horse are for beginners, followed by Lunge Lines where the rider has control but the trainer stays close by and finally Free in the Arena where the rider has full control. There are also one-hour group lessons.

Wynwood Murals
Chances are you’ve been to Wynwood and seen the murals but perhaps only in the evening during the monthly art walk. Spring Break is a great opportunity to see the nationally- and world-renowned murals in broad daylight. A weekday is the perfect time to truly see the mastery of the street artists and even see some of them creating a piece with spray cans and paint. It’s the perfect opportunity to see a colorful mural coming to life right before your very eyes. Then you can boast to your friends about your experience.

Rock climbing

The 305 is flat, completely devoid of mountains so why not get your rock climbing experience without having to buy expensive airfare and travel to a mountainous region? At the indoor X-Treme Rock Climbing Center of Miami in Kendall there’s more than 14,000-square-feet of climbing fun. Whether you’re a newbie or experienced climber, they have routes for everyone here. Want to challenge yourself? Try the climbing routes with roofs and overhangs. They also have yoga classes and a full fitness center.

Youth Fair
You’ve got a full week with no alarms going off in the morning. So spend a night or two at the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair. If you go any day between Monday and Thursday before 6 p.m. you get in for $7, half-off the regular admission. That’s late enough that you can stay into the evening and frolic around the Midway riding every adrenaline rushing ride and having a dinner of the best carnival fare they’ve got to offer. You need a coupon for the $7 admission (and while you’re on the fair’s website downloading that coupon check out this year’s great food deals.).

Culture Shock
Maybe there’s a show or an exhibition you’ve been wanting to see. This is the perfect week to take advantage of the great deals offered through Culture Shock Miami. History Miami, the Perez Art Museum Miami, Lowe Art Museum and The Wolfsonian all offer discounted entry to students ages 13-22. Area Stage Company at The Riviera in Coral Gables and the Aventura Cultural Arts Center also have discounts for their current shows.
