6 free and cheap events in Miami this weekend – Aug. 19-21

We love it when most of the weekend events are free. This time, we’re highlighting two concerts, a landmark attraction, pet fest, historic bicycle tour, and back to school jam. Enjoy:

Musical concerts

Two free music concerts this weekend to enjoy, one in Little Haiti and another in Miami Beach. Head over to Little Haiti in Miami for the “Sounds of Little Haiti,” a monthly cultural event that features live music, coupled with neighborhood art studios, restaurants, retail shops and venues that are all open to the public. The scheduled performer on Aug. 19 is X-tassy. Then on Aug. 20, head over to the Eden Roc in Miami Beach for a “Paired Affair” concert featuring Casey James and Tim Urban.

Landmark attraction

The Deering Estate at Cutler is celebrating a free “Play Day,” a day with free admission on Aug. 20. Aside from free admission and free parking, there will be opportunities for meeting zoo animals, canoe trips, pet adoptions, tropical fruit tasting and more. Don’t miss out on seeing this landmark attraction for free by the bay, the sister site to Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.

Dog fest

CocoWalk invites doggies and their owners to celebrate the free “Dog Days of Summer” at the 2nd annual Dog Festival on Aug. 20. Expect interactive toys, games and giveaways. Take a pet photo in an Instagram photo booth, and sign up for the pet talent competition. Hey, it’s a “ruff” life, but somebody’s got to play.

Bicycle tour

Take a free historical bicycle tour on Aug. 20 around Coconut Grove. Sponsored by the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District and guided by Royal Palm Tours of Miami, the tour will highlight local ecological treasures. Register prior to the tour is encouraged.

Back to school jam

Let’s face it : Parents are the only ones excited for back to school. But make the best of it with a “Be You! Back to School Jam.” It’s a free concert, health fair and screenings, backpack giveaway, and more at the Black Archives Historic Lyric Theatre in Overtown on Aug. 20.
