5 Surprising Facts About Kimora Lee Simmons

Model, trendsetter and reality TV show guilty pleasure — these are just a few of the many roles that come to mind when thinking of Kimora Lee Simmons. The feminine powerhouse has also proven herself as an applauded fashion designer with versatile, flattering collections that are a welcomed update to closet staples.

Lucky for Miami, her Kimora Lee Simmons spring collection (pictured here) is available at Bloomingdale’s in Aventura Mall, the first department store to carry the line. We had a chance to chat with Simmons and dug up these five little-known facts.

1. She’s got her fashionable eye on…

“Contrasting elements. I believe firmly that women DO want to be noticed but not gawked at. So color-blocking, mixed media, embellished paneling — all of that helps set you apart without causing rubber-necking.”

 2. Her guilty pleasure…

“I make lists — lists upon lists upon lists. Family, work, travel, household items. I have an island in my closet that’s crammed with post-its, agendas and calendars. It looks like A Beautiful Mind, but it’s effective and helps me stay on top of things — and people!”

3. If she weren’t a designer…

“I’d be an attorney. Or a pharmacist. Or a veterinarian. Possibly all three. I’d probably have several alternate occupations in addition to those I hold currently.”

4. Kimora’s high school superlative would have totally been…

“I spent most of my high school years modeling in Paris so I’d probably be awarded “Most Absent” or have received the ‘Where’d She Go Now?’ plaque.”

5. Favorite piece in the new spring collection…

“My favorite look is a tricolor jersey pyramid sheath dress with a side slit that’s a little flirty but still elevated. I also have a great ivory stretch leather moto jacket with zip-off, removable sleeves. It’s basically a jacket that can be anything that you want it to be.”
